BEST ANSWER: From the end of the shank to the front of the cutter face is 4 5/8 inches.
You should know, though, that there are extenders that you can get to allow you to drill deeper.

I drilled 250 holes 1” deep in white oak handrail. The bit was still sharp after 250 holes. I would definitely recommend this drill bit.

Stayed sharp after drilling over 100 holes and is ready for more.
I put the long shank Carbide Forster Bit to the test drilling well over 100 holes 1 inch deep into 8 quarter hard maple. The drill worked great. I bought two bits to make sure I could finish this job. I only used one bit and it's still sharp and ready for more. I will diffenatly recommend this product to others..

3/4" Long Shank Carbide Forstner Bit
I have used a 3/4" Carbide Forstner Bit for several years. It has drilled a lot of holes and is still sharp and doing a good job. I have purchased a second bit to use in a different application.

Top quality forstner bits
These bits are great. Since they are carbide, they're super sharp and cut very clean holes. They're certainly more expensive than standard HSS bits, but well worth it. I wish they came in a set though, as you can normally get a better deal that way.

Long Shank Carbide Forstner Bits

I've used a lot of Forstner...
I've used a lot of Forstner bits over years, and these are without a doubt the best I've used. They cut fast and clean, stay sharp, and are really a joy to use. It's hard to get excited about a drill bit, but you will about these! Incidentally, a piece of carbide cracked off on one of the bits after about 10 months of use, and Rockler replaced the bit with no problems. Great bit, great customer service - what more can you ask?!

Forstner bit
I needed to cut away some wood but not right through and keep it at the same level. So I bought this to use on my bench drill press. It worked well. A smoother bottom would have been better this has a spike in the middle for centering. I know I can use a router but I don't have one yet.
