Hit or Miss
Posted January 10, 2014
I've ordered several of these pieces on a 2 different occasions and it's kinda hit or miss. Some pieces have been beautiful while others have been dissapointing to say the least. I had one that apparently had an unseen crack in it. It was along the grain and I didn't see it until I cut it and it just fell apart. That entire piece was unusable. The others were cut just fine. Some others had some deep gouges in them. Deep enough that I wanted to run them through a planer rather than sand them but my planer can't handle anything thinner that 1/8". It took a LOT of work to work them out with a sander and one I didn't bother using. Would I order again? Maybe but I've learned that I have to order more than I need becuase you never know what your going to get. As much as I hate to waste the money just tossing away the bad pieces it's just not worth it to mail back the bad pieces. Of the 9 pieces I ordered 2 were unusable. That's $14 down the drain.
Editor's note: Our customer service team at 800-376-7856 will be able to replace those unusable pieces for you Bill

Boards were a little cupped but overall they were not bad. I would purchase from Rockler again. Shipping was fast and accurate.

Disappointing quality at a premium price. I ordered S4S and S2S lumber. Little regard was paid to packaging, the boards were left to rattle around along with a can of stain in a box much too big during shipment. The corner of the box ripped during shipment too. The result was a large number of dings and overall poor condition.Customer service was friendly and helpful, and shipped a replacement order at no cost. The replacement order was definitely better but still not great. All the boards have areas of pits or indentations on the surface, I think this is what the earlier reviewer referred to as "chatter". They look like they have been struck with a bag of coins in certain areas. To get rid of these marks, I will have to do a lot more sanding than I wanted to.The end result is that with backorder and replacements, it has taken me almost a month to get wood that is of disappointing quality. I am sure Rockler would take it back for a refund if I asked, they do have great customer service, but at this point I just want to start my project.

Good quality, only issue I have is with planing "chatter" on some pieces that still remained after light sanding prior to application of tung oil.
