Do the halves close together enough to be butt-mounted??
Crazy Chucky
on Apr 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, if I remember right. It's been two years since I bought this, but I'm fairly certain they closed together enough in one direction that the two halves touch each other on the screw-head sides (0 degrees). Swinging the other direction (screw point side) they closed to less than 90 degrees, but not 0 degrees. If memory serves, I actually did butt-mount mine on a jewelry box.

How many hinges are included in the price when it says $4.49 each but the description says "2 pair"?
John R
on Jul 18, 2017
Hi John. There are two pair of hinges with at least enough solid brass hinges (usually 1 or 2 extra). I have had great success with these hinges. They look expensive but aren't. The next set of hinges up in 'quality' run about $13 or more a pair. I highly recommend the hinges you asked about. Dave

Does this hinge stop at some degree less than 180 degrees?
Jack W
on Dec 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If I interpret your question correctly, when "closed", the hinge forms a shallow "A", w/ the barrel of the hinge being the base of the "A". When "opened", it will move through slightly more than 270 degrees forming a sharp right angle on the side opposite the barrel. I hope this answers your question.

Excellent brass hinges
These are excellent brass hinges. The only ones available in local stores are thin and lack a polished finish. These, that I bought from Rockler, are thicker and high quality.

great hinges for the money
I use a lot of small hinges. Finding them is a challenge. The above hinges fit the bill. I hope Rockler continues to offer them. Other brands I have tried appear cheap or have about 30% failure rate.

Excellent value for the money. I don't know what the fuss about screws as in other reviews. Drill a 1/16th pilot hole and wax the screw threads by rubbing on an old candle. This worked fine on five birdseye maple and cherry boxes I constructed for Christmas - not one broken screw.

Great Value, Slighly Inconsistent
Great little hinges. At this price, I guess I should expect slight variations in size, pin tightness, and finish quality. Overall, quite good. If you are picky, you may want to buy a few extras so you can discard the less beautiful ones.

I bought half a dozen sets of these to use on small folding tables I make and sell. They're sturdy and well made. I especially appreciate the screws -- a couple of extras with every set, and much better made than many other small brass screws I've wasted money on. Good job, Rockler!

The price is right
These are stamped thin gauge solid brass lacquer coated. For the price, they are decent quality. I've used dozens of these hinges and sometimes find a few that are slack and wobbly but that doesn't affect the fit much after installation. If you want perfection, pay the thirty bucks and get Brusso. A tleast these are not plated steel. If you look at the picture closely, you can see that the barrels do not line up perfectly. The finishes always seem to be good.
As for the screws, you'll have no problem with them if you do pilot holes. Use .065 to 075" drill and you will never break or strip one even in the hardest wood.

I ordered three pair and of the six hinges, only two were operable! The two leaves were either poorly aligned and thus would bind when opening and closing, or the pin was pinched or bent for the same result. One of the leaves was even gouged and very bent (maybe caught in a gear during manufacture). Packaged and sold none the less. Rockler did right by me, but what frustration to suffer these unusable hinges!
