According to the editors of HANDY Magazine, winners of the HANDY Innovation Award are honored for "products that showcase initiative, creativity, invention, reinvention and ecoinnovation." Whereas traditional glue brushes are thrown away after a single use, the brush, spreader and tray included in the kit can all be cleaned with a quick rinse under a faucet, or be left to dry, and the dried glue peeled off the following day. The scraper allows quick coverage for wider boards, while the tray features a notch to hold the brush, and contain stray drips. The Mixing Mate Paint Lid replaces messy stir sticks and battered lids with a neat, fabricated lid that integrates a crankable mixing paddle. After cranking the handle to mix the paint, it is poured by simply pressing the thumb lever. Releasing the lever automatically reseals the lid for storage, and the lid can be moved to other cans for years of repeated use.
