Good change from chrome opener

I like the fact these don't include the allen wrench since anyone who's turned more than one bottle opener using the older chrome model, already has more than enough. I want to say the wood insert is different as well, improving on the lightweight fitting included with the chrome model, but I don't have one that's not inside a handle to validate this. The new one has a better top piece that turns into the wood smoothly. I turn my handles differently than many, using the turning mandrel, #43469. I finally found a stepped drill that works very well, the Kreg HD drill bit, #48049. The large part is 1/2" while the tip is 1/4". This works perfectly in hardwood, drilling a stepped hole that's perfectly centered. I just wish Rockler offered a shorted version so I could lock it into my tailstock when drilling using my lathe. It's too long for my mini lathe. This drill bit does cut very well, expelling the chips if you don't use the included stop collar. I am planning on epoxying the threaded insert to make sure it doesn't spin out when I remove the bottle opener piece. Having the 1/4" hole works as a secondary support for the bottle opener, locking it into the wood as well as the thread insert. I just wish the mandrel used a longer tip to also grab the wood while turing. 3/4" is only enough for the threaded insert.
