I used this plan with my college students and we modified the plans and made three different sizes of tables & benches for a community daycare and preschool about 5 years ago. They are holding up well and we are planning to build more for the elementary school.

I first saw the convertible picnic table at a flea market, and decided to try to find the plans. Was suprised to find them on your site. The plans are easy to follow, for even the beginner. I wanted a project that my wife and I could do for Christmas Presents for our children and parents. So far we have built 4, altering the plans on the last three for a larger table. Everything worked out great. Plans were precise. Completed all of the cutting and then put together and everything fit. Now we have to have Christmas in August, cause we don't have room for 4 picnic tables. Will use your plans again. We used treated lumber on all and then Thompson's to protect against rain, if we ever get some.

We made one bench of 5' and one at 7'. I am not a finish carpenter and both were within 1/4 inch of matching on the table portion. Good instruction. The second one is a show piece with high end 4-planed-sides cedar lumber.
