I found this jig on Rockler's web site. I read most of the reviews, and it sounded like the jig I wanted. I also took into account the not so good reviews some of the people gave. Being made out of Cast iron and locking rail into the miter groove on the table saw was a plus. I got it yesterday and I checked it over for smoothness on the bottom side that runs on the table saw. It was fine. All I had to do was move the miter guide. I set it up for the cuts I needed. I had about 20 pieces of wood that needed a tenon on both ends, waiting for this jig to arrive. I started in and before I was ready to finish I was done with all my tenons. This was so easy to use and to do the same cut over and over, sliding the jig back a forth was a breeze. I can't say enough about this jig. Well worth the price to me. Built to out last me too. I may not push this jig to it's limits or use all of it's functions, but for what I needed it's the top of the line to me. Also some complaints were about the instructions. I went to youtube and watched a video that was pretty much the same jig there and got all the info I needed for mine. Anyway great addition to my improving workshop.

Bought this jig in April, 2012. Found it easy to set up and fairly straightforward to use. Completed two tables using this jig before the clamp arm completely broke in two. Wasn't using much pressure to tighten the clamp. Problem was probably because of some faulty weak spot in the cast iron. I can still use the jig without the clamp arm because I can use clamps to hold the piece sturdy on the jig. I have bought numerous items from Rockler and this is the first piece that fell apart.

Editor's note: Our customer service team at 800-376-7856 will be able to assist with replacement of the broken arm for you Fred.

I just purchased this jig after looking at a few others, and reading the many reviews. The setup was quick and easy. I had to add small washers to the guide bar, but it fits tight on my Ridgid table saw. The quality of the bottom milled surface is poor since the burrs and sharp corners were not removed. This is probably why some users get scratches on their table saws. I added self adhesive UHMW tape to this surface and it slides smoothly. Heavy duty jig. Works great.

I had some trouble getting the alignment correct. The pictures in the instructions appear to be backward and could be a bit better quality. Other than that, I recommend this product.

This Tenoning Jig is a real time-saver. It works well, and I look forward to many years of enjoying this handy addition to my woodworking shop. I rate the jig as excellent, but the instructions as poor. You need to already know enough about this tool to assemble it yourself, because the instructions are worse than useless. Check the diagram to make sure you have the parts, then throw the instruction manual to the side, and you will be fine. My guess is that there was a great deal lost in translation, or that the writer had no knowledge of the jig in particular, or woodworking in general. But, again, an excellent Tenoning Jig.

Purchased this jig to build some mission style end tables for my wife. I use a Craftsman saw and did not have any problems setting this up on my saw. Works very well, and made cutting the tenons easy. Very repetitive but easy, you do have to be careful to make sure the wood is square, but if doing smaller peices can do 2-3 at a time. Very pleased with this and will continue to use for years to come.

If you can not follow the setup instructions you probably should not be operating a table saw. I cut a tennon with in 15minutes out of the box. My saw is set up dead square to begin with and the jig was also dead on.

Purchased this jig a couple of years ago and have used it with great success. One this to keep in mind if you have a Craftsman Saw, you may need to adjust the runner bar. I found a couple passes on the belt sander worked just fine. The runner is just a little bit wide for the Craftsman. Be careful you don't want to take off too much.

Got this jig for Christmas. Had a little trouble initially setting it up, till my wife pointed out the directions might help. From that point on, no problems. The precision is excellent, and the repeatability is awesome, which equates to a huge time savings on almost any project. Not to mention a near perfect fit every time. Yea I'm excited! Would reccomend this product to anyone. Just read the directions.

This jig is one heavy hoss! Practiced with it and works great once you figure it out. The directions are no help, very confusing. Some parts aren't labeled correctly and the photos images appear backwards? Maufacturer needs to review and revise. Other than that, I'm looking forward to putting it to work.

As others have mentioned, the instructions are a bit confusing. The technical bulletin helps. I used the saw blade for orientation. Turns out that the blade in the pictures is revesed rotation. The teeth are pointed away from the feed end of the table. No wonder my guide landed in the right miter slot!

If you are counting on using this product on standard stock that is over 3.25inch in any direction, this is not the product for you. You CAN use the jig for larger stock, but you have to fix your own clamps in some fashion which kind of detracts paying over a hundred dollars for a jig. Then you also have to take into consideration that on some table saws, mine is a Ridged contractor grade saw, you can't get the base plate right up to the blade. The closest mine gets to the blade is 1/8 inch. and then consider the kurf size, and that means the MINIMAL shoulder you can make is in my case 7/32. When using stock that is less than 3/4's that is a VERY bad constraint. If it wasn't so heavy, and return shipping so much, I would have already returned it. Since the shipping is so High, I'm going to let it "hang out", and hope that more of the jobs I have fit within it's constraints. Finally, I would like to mention the "blade to jig face" gauge is made out of a flimsy plastic, and on mine was installed crooked and creased, so that it's useless. I have some steel ruled stock I can use in it's place. On a positive note, it is built like a tank, so it will last a long time. I also did NOT have the issues with it scratching my table that others did. All in all, I can't recommend this product.

Directions not as good as they could be for assembly, but figured it out. Fit tight in the saw's miter slot, so lubed it up with some WD-40. Worked it a couple times, worked better. The "square-up" procedure worked great. The tenons came out good. Building a rocking chair for Christmas for our 20 month grandson.

When first received the jig I did the usual cleaning and waxed the machined surfaces. I found the lagging miter wheel did not fit into the miter slot but a thin washer under it simply solve the problem and allowed the jig to fit nice and tight. I did not get any scratching as mentioned in other reviews, possibly due to the waxing, and all the adjustments linned up without incident. Ir is nice and sturdy an smooth to use.

Works well. I do have some movement rock due to fit not being tight in miter slot. I was able to solve this by applying steady pressure to the outside hand grip. I will work on getting this fit tighter, but was finishing a cabinet and needed the tenons. Still made great cuts and would recommend it to anyone.

I had been making tenons using other methods and became quite frustrated with the results. This jig along with my table saw made perfect tenons. I no longer had to spend time reshaping tenons to fit the mortises. If you're building long lasting furniture this jig is a must.

Very nifty little jig for making tenons. I was able to use it to make very nice tenons included in a furniture project I was working on the very first day I had it. The jig saves time and money. There are a lot of little tricks you can figure out for it after you get it set up and running that are not included in the product description.

Rockler is quickly becoming the "go-to" place for useful jigs and accessories. This tenoning jig is no exception. It's a sturdy, high quality, easy-to-use product that produces very accurate results. I've made tenons for years and have never looked forward to it because of the tedious and/or unsafe approaches I've used. This jig changes all that. If you're unsure-- BUY IT.

The jig is very well built. You can easily cut repeatable, precise tenons. I'm making a set of dining room chairs, and it has been a real time-saver. However, don't expect to get much help from the users manual for set-up, poor/missing diagrams, instructions that don't match the diagrams.  But if you're doing projects that require cutting tenons, you can probably figure out the set-up.

I would rate this product excellent but it still could use some improvements.
1) The gauge is too crude although the fine adjustment knob has the accuracy to make a gauge actually useful. I will have to make my own needle and gauge to make fine adjustment easier and more repeatable. The support plate does kind of wobble as you use the fine adjustment until you lock it down with the J lever. I would feel more comfortable with the fine adjustment knob if this did not happen.
2) There are no detents or scale for angle tenoning although it does allow it to be done. This would be easy to include.
3) It would be easier and faster to set up if they told you to extend the base until part# 31 and 32 were all the way to the left before setting the stops. Took me a few extra minutes to figure this out.
4) Good thing I read the bulletin on the Rockler site before attempting to follow the instructions provided with the jig. Why is it so hard to include this bulletin with the product or modify the manual?

Now, for the good part. It is well made, solid, and repeats beautifully. Makes tenoning much safer and quicker. Should last forever. Has almost all the adjustments one could ask for except one for making parallel to the blade. I did not need it but it would be nice to have, just in case. I may be nit picking and sound unhappy but that is the furthest from the truth. It does what it is supposed to do and does it accurately. I offer these words in the hope that the manufacturer will take this positive criticism to heart and strive for perfection in its next revision.

This is an adder to my previous post, now that I have had more time to use the tenon jig.
I will stand by my earlier comments that it is robust, safe, and accurate.
What I don't like and what I was hoping to solve was to be able to cut ALL the cheeks. At least on face frames that are usually 1 1/2" stock. If it had just a 1/4" of an inch more range (move the rail slide to the left of the jig base 1/4"), it could safely make all four cheek cuts with the jig. I am SOOO close but just do not have enough travel to cut the last two. Now I was told on the phone that they don't know of any jig that will. Well, guess what, with a slight modification to yours, you could. And to make it safer and quicker, one could cut two rails at the same time by stacking them, reduce tear out, and provide more face area for the clamp at the same time!!!!!!
This jig really does not save me any time if I still have to cut the last two cheek cuts with a datto on my table saw. And, I am sure that their are a LOT of us that do face frames a great deal of the time using mortise and tenon joints.

I found the instruction and owners manual to be of very poor quality. It appeared to have been photocopied from another copy. The photos were dark and details were impossible to discern. This made it impossible to use the photos to assemble the tool. I had expected  a much higher quality. The tool itself is heavy and seems to be well constructed. A poor manual detracts greatly from the overall quality.

After getting the jig parallel to the saw blade I had an even harder time getting slide to match the miter slots on my saw. They would not match in either slot. I called technical support and he had me measure the distance from the blade to the miter slot. I found out you must have at least 4 1/2" distance from the 1st slot or at least 5 1/2" from the second. My 1st saw would not work in either slot because of the distance. I had a cheaper model saw that I had to remove the washers. This time it worked perfectly and now I am really satisfied with the product. It does a great job and my recommendation would be to put in your advertisement to measure the blade to the miter slot to make sure it will fit the saw you use in your shop.

The product itself works great and is well built. The instructions for aligning the jig parallel to the saw blade leave something to be desired. The instructions refer to a process that doesn't match the picture so I never did figure it out.

Editor's note: There has been a change made by the manufacturer and part of the instructions are no longer valid.
To do the alignment now you must:
a) loosen the lever J on the top surface of the slide mechanism.
b) on the underside of the base loosen the 2 hex screws that hold the base to the slide mechanism.
c) adjust the base its edge is parallel to the face plate.
d) retighten the hex screws.

Some minor adjustments were needed to get the jig up and running. Had to remove the washers that guide the jig in the miter slots of my saw (helpful technical service instructed me to do so assuring that removing the washers would not sacrifice safety nor function). Once done, it works perfectly and makes work a lot easier and safer to do.

After considering building my own tenoning jig, I saw this in the Rockler on-line catalog, liked the affordable price, and decided to buy it. I've had it only a few weeks, but thus far it has been excellent. The set-up directions were a little bit confusing, but once I got things figured out, the jig has held its adjustment and produced reliable and accurate cuts. It's also easy to use. So far, this seems like a great value.

I purchased the "Tenon Jig" in March of "06" and I have used the machine for several projects with outstanding results each time. The real payoff for me is the ability to repeat the same cut over and over as I have been building outdoor deck stools that have tenon secured stretchers. Having the ability to "dial in" the proper cheek cut and run them all at the same time is a real time saver. If you take the time and effort to set the machine up right you can get results equally as good as I have. This may not be the machine to quickly run 1 tenon through your saw but if you need the repeatabilty that I need this IS the tool for the job.
I cannot say enough about the Rockler customer service and speedy processing of my orders; they know what they are doing and have secured my business for as long as they want it.

The instuctions state that to adjust the parallelism of the tool you need loosen the set screws through hole N, align the face and then retighten the screws. There is no hole N ! Nice heavy duty jig that works well, providing you have a Delta, or Delta knock off saw. I have an old Sears Craftsman tablesaw (1951) and the slot for the runner is NOT .75 inch, but rather .74 inch. doesn't seem like alot, but if the runner doesn't fit the track, then you can't use it. My nephew works in a research company that mills it own stock and they were able to mill a runner for me. it does the job nicely and is a snap to adjust. very stable and steady and with the large clamp turning handles, it is a must for anyone who owns a tablesaw!!

Setup instructions were poor, at best. It took me nearly 2 hours to go from the box to actually cutting tenons. Watch out for some of the tiny vertical screws that can actually stick out below the level of the base; I almost scratched my table surface with one of these. Finally the device still has a little wiggle in the miter slot that my other miter devices don't have. I realize this all sounds negative, but I am still satisfied with my purchase. This thing is a as sturdy as a tank!

This is a solid device, but… there are two design issues, the design issues won’t apply to everyone but… There are two places to attach the bar that slides into your miter slot. The instructions don’t say anything about which one to use (!) but you use the one that gets the jig’s vertical face close enough to your saw blade to touch it. Then you back off and use a set screw to prevent the face from ever contacting the blade in use. In the case of my saw (Jet Deluxe Xacta cabinet saw with about 4-1/2 inches from the slot to the blade)) that meant the jig would only handle about a 1-1/4” thick piece before the vertical face of the jig slid back over the base. To cut a thicker piece, I’d have to relocate the miter slot bar to the other location on the tenoning jig. And then I’d have to put it back in the other location to handle thinner parts again.
Second design issue, again may not apply to you: The sliding bar that goes into the miter slot has washers attached at the front and back to fit miter slots that have a T-slot cross section. The bar isn’t adjustable for side-to-side fit in the slot, or for vertical fit. In my case there was no slop side to side, but I had to shim the bar so the washers would fit in the miter slot. Not a big deal if you only have to do it once, but if you have to swap the bar back and forth repeatedly to handle both thinner and thicker pieces, fiddling with the shim could get tedious.
All in all, a solid hunk of cast iron but very disappointing in important details.

I purchased this for my PM2000. It was the only I could find that would reach the blade. I already had the Delta but it wouldn't reach. This was the last one they had in the store. Out of the box I had zero problems setting up the Delta. With this jig, the frustration began immediately. I had to move the guide bar out to the outer groove. The socket screws were so tight that I rounded out the supplied hex key and twisted my own. A trip to the local home center and $13 got me some high strength hex keys. Really double the $13 because I didn't know if these were SAE or metric. They were metric and they rounded out the socket. These screws were tight. Back to the home center for a 1/4" tap and pilot bit and new socket screws. Another $8. After drilling out the existing socket screws and retapping the holes I was able to move on to the rest of the alignment. Same story with the screws holding the alignment bar to the sled. Why didn't I just return it? Last one in San Diego and I had to have it. Absolutey unnecessary to run the screws in that tight at the factory. This was the worst set up for anything that I've bought.

This product worked well, but it needs some attention before you can use it.
Right out of the box, you will have to correct fit and finish issues before first use.
The cast iron base is slightly warped and not adequately de-burred from the factory. Therefore, it must be honed flat before sliding it on your table saw, otherwise it will scratch up your table saw, and wobble producing poor results.
To prepare the base, it must first be disassembled from the rest of the jig, and the miter slot bar removed. Next, break the sharp edges around the cast "waffle pattern" on the underside using a dremel tool fitted with a carbide burr. Lastly, tape a sheet of sandpaper down on a machined flat surface e.g. jointer bed, and work the bottom side of the jig plate on this surface, back and forth, in a direction parallel to the miter slot channel for a few minutes. Test the base on a flat surface for wobble. Repeat this honing process until the wobble is minimized to a tolerable level.
Thoroughly clean the base of abrasive grit and remove traces of oil with solvent.
Re-assemble the jig.
Applying strips of Nylo-friction tape (Item #70615), to the outer edges will prevent the jig from scratching up your saw. I also used this product to tighten up a sloppy fit in my miter slot by applying along one edge of the miter bar.

Last week I bought this thing after reading all these rave reviews. I've rarely bought a tool for a hundred dollars that made my project time take 5 times longer. I've shaped tenons in fractions of time that this thing takes to do it.
First, this is not a tenon maker tool. That's false to call it a 'tenon jig'. What it does do is remove two-cheeks of the tenon. For the other two sides, you need to do as you normally would with your saw. That alone can screw up the entire process having to re-measure your depth horizontally. I couldn't make all four sides for 8 pieces the same depth on all four sides without taking painful hours to adjust and adjust and adjust. And once you think you have that set,it takes many passes if you want to remove a cheek thicker than 1/8 of an inch or whatever your saw blade measures. The product itself is shipped with instructions that were written while someone was on an LSD trip. All in all, I finally gave up and took the unit back to the store where I bought it three days earlier. Forget it. Make a simple tenoning jig, a real one, with the ability to take off all four sides of the stock, all in the same plane, changing nothing, using rabbeting router bit in 15 seconds.

Tenon jig is stout and easy to use. This is the second one I've bought. The first one got wet in a water leak and was ruined. For the price this is the best one out there. Only improvement I can see is to solve the loose rocking problems mentioned by several reviews.

Have not had a chance to use it yet, but hopefully will work nicely, once it get it properly set up.
Directions are confusing, different letters are used to refer to the same part in separate photos and drawings. had to use the alternate slide position, as my table saw has a sliding extension left of blade (that sits about 1/16" higher per mfr recommendations), but doing this somewhat limits the size of stock that can fit and have the blade outboard of the work (as shown in the directions). would be nice to have a jig that operated on either side of the blade, but I don't see anyway to swap it around safely.

Instructions could not be worse!
After struggling with the instructions that came with the jig and making little sense, I printed the technical bulletin. This would have been great, but the part numbers referred to in the bulletin did not match the exploded view that came with my instructions. I then printed the instructions on the Rockler site. I am starting again for the third time to align the unit. Hopefully the third time will be the charm. I also noticed there was no reference to changing the miter slot for the guide bar. With my Delta X5 Unisaw, I needed to move the bar to the furthest outside position. One picture in the instructions showed this position. I am happy with the weight and quality of the fittings and pieces.

WOW! This is the kind of solid, rugged, heavy duty precision accessory. Definitely looking forward to putting this jig into action sometime soon.

The extended instrutions worked fine, but for the fact that fully cranked to the saw blade it missed the mark by a couple of inches. Turning the jig over I noticed an extra slot cut for the mitre guide bar. Moved it and the jig is now perfect.

As some others have mentioned, the instructions provided are not very good. However, in 3 hours or so, I was able to get the jig set up pretty well. On my saw the slot is 5 inches from the blade, which didn't work out very well with the guide bar in either position. So, like the previous poster, I added a 3/4 actually 18mm plywood facing to the fence. With this addition, the jig works very well, and has the additionally advantage of being able to cut flush with the inner side of the work piece, since the blade is against my plywood facing piece instead of agaist the cast iron. I discovered that the lead screw moves the fence 1.5mm per turn. It would a helpful improvement to the product to add a pointer and 15 marks around the circumfrence of the knob. The scale on this unit is not precise enough for me to rely on. I plan to try adding a digital readout so that I can get higher precision. If you add a wooden face to the fence, make sure it is fastened to the fence raised up from the table so that it will clear the bottom plate. Otherwise, it will limit the range of adjustment of the jig.

I also had trouble with aligment adjustments. The instructions did not parallal the pictures or the picture was just labeled wrong. However, once you figure out the correct way to alignment the jig is very sturdy and well built. I would recommend this for an experienced woodworker.

Two problems: for my saw, I needed to switch the miter bar to the outside slot. Unfortunately, both screws were locked-in tight, and one stripped out with a hex wrench. That's awfully soft metal for a machine screw. The other problem, and it's a deal killer, is that the base plate is warped. It rocks on two corners, with 0.034" of play in the other two corners. It makes this jig completely unusable. I suspect this is just a fluke because the rest of the jig seems to be high quality.

Editor's note: The base plate should definitely not be warped Dan. Our customer service team at 800-376-7856 is available to assist you with replacement.

I saw the comments about hard to figure out how to assemble, but I missed the fact there is an additional tech bulletin.....under MORE INFO tab on web site.
The first item I ran into was to remove the 2 washers and bolts on the 3/4" wide guide piece since my saw has 3/4" wide guide groove. The washer must be for other saws with grooves wider than 3/4".
My old table saw is a 1968 Sears 10 inch table saw with the 3/4" guide groove about 5 inches from the blade.
I ended up ignoring the instructions that came with the jig and used the picture on the box as a reference.
The 3/4" guide bar has 2 optional positions. I tried both positions and either I could not use the stop screw to keep away from the blade, or I could not saw the outside of the tenon. I ended up adding a 3/4" thick piece of plywood screwed to the cast iron jig as a spacer. Fortunately, the jib has 4 holes drilled already to screw a spacer onto it.
The jig works fine once I finally figured out how to assemble it and adjust it. It is heavy duty and should give good service.
A video sure would be helpful to help assemble this unit. After I had it assembled, I found the Tech Bulletin........but it wasn't much better than the original instructions that came with the jig.
I would recommend this jig as long as you have some patience and assume it will take a couple of hours to get it assembled.

"Have been a return customer for a number of years, and a recent experience has really cemented that bond for me. After using my Rockler lighted magnifying lens for a few months, one of the wires from the battery pack came loose. When I contacted Customer Service to inquire about sending the unit back, they instead sent me a brand new one - no questions asked, no return expected, no charge whatsoever. This simple step - coupled with top quality, innovative products - ensured my repeat business more than any other advertising technique or gimmick could ever do. Keep up the good work, Rockler!"
