I got my iron and I love it. Originally I had a small problem with the iron, however it was sorted out in a timely manner and everything I do gets branded. I agree you have to allow the time for it to heat up and I have found I too have to rock the iron back and forth. But all in all very satisfied. It makes my work stand out. Cheers, Geno

I purchased this iron a few weeks ago and have had the opportunity to give it a test ride. Like most of the others have said, there Is a learning curve to get it right. I practiced on a variety of hard and soft woods and it did take a while to get a consistent brand. I'm getting the hang of it and the brands are coming out looking sharp. I did notice that different pressure is needed depending on the hardness and or grain pattern your trying to brand. I practice on the same wood I plan to brand my project with. The iron is well made and reasonably priced.

Thanks to previous comments giving it the full 15 minutes to warm up I had no problems using it on my first attempt. I used a piece of scrap - of the same material as my project - to get the hang of it. All in all, easy to use and nice looking results. Only downside I experienced was the wait time for the head to show up in the mail - about 3 1/2 weeks.

This item is wonderful for giving a professional and real craftsman finishing touch to your work. It takes a little learning curve... you have to let it warm up for about 15 mins or it will not work well. Then you have to do our imprinting and let it cool off before putting away... definitely not a minute job to put this on your work. That's the major drawback. make sure you have a scrap or two to test on, impatience will make you want to do it too early. Rocking or rolling the brand is the way to go to get good even burning. The heat rising off the brand can make the handle a bit warmer than you think.

It takes a few practice runs but works great. I found the rocking technique works very well as mentioned in a few other reviews. I had mine engraved with my three initials as that has always been my "signature". It is now great to have items I make personalized with a little more professional look than my chicken scratch using a Dremel Tool.

I got tired of trying to use a pencil type woodburner to sign projects so I ordered this one. About 15 min. warmup for perfect letters on oak. I highly recommend this iron.

I just received this branding iron it works great... BUT let it warm up for 15 or 20 minutes before using, I only waited about 5 or 10 minutes and as a result I was pushing very hard on the handle to try to get it to imprint and my hand slipped down the handle and on to the VERY hot part.. hot enough to burn flesh but not wood... DONT make that mistake that I did.
After I let it warm up properly it imprinted the wood very well.

I had been looking for a branding iron and really liked not only the look of this one, but the price as well. On top of that, I recieved my "head" in the mail with a week of sending the order form in! ultra fast service!
I will say that it takes a little practice to get it to burn correctly in Oak. I found that by holding it down for a few seconds and then rock it left then right I get a better imprint. Other than that, it works great! now I can actually sign my projects.

I received this electric branding iron as gift for Christmas. I had been "marking" my wood projects freehand with a woodburning iron. I thought this branding iron would be much easier to mark my future projects. It works very well and leaves a clear impression on hardwoods & softwoods alike. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the iron to heat up to proper temperature of impressions. I suggest spending the extra money on this electric model, it's well worth it not bothering with a propane torch. I highly recommend this product to those who like to add a personalized and professional looking touch to their woodworking projects.

I purchased the Iron after I got a large order for pen and pencil sets with hand made pen boxes. I made a "jig" to put over the box to simplify the process and branded the bottom side of all the boxes I made, 55 to be exact. The purchaser just loved it, he said it added a certain "quality" to the boxes. Who knows, someday they may be worth more with my "stamp" on them? I'm going back and branding all the furniture in my home that I've made over the past few years. I believe my next purchase will be the date stamp. Thanks Rockler for a quality product!

The iron rocks. If you ever built anything and always thought that you would love to mark it. Here's your chance. I've been wanting a branding for several years but never seem to get around to buying one. My wife gave it to me for Christmas. I love it. I thought that I would have to practice to get an even burn. I had it down in 5 burns. Looked great on the chairs I built for my Eagle's Club Members Christmas party. One thing that I'd like to see, is interchangable heads. Beside that, I give it 2 thumbs up.

I bought the branding iron as a Christmas gift for my father. He is a retired construction superintendent and spends his days doing woodcraft projects. I thought this would help him better mark his handiwork. He loves it! It works very well and every woodcraft item he made in December has been branded! Thank you.

I bought this for my husband as a gift this past Christmas. He is thrilled with the iron and is branding all his projects! This is a great idea, especially for all those items given to our children as gifts. Future generations will be able to identify the source of these wonderful pieces of furniture.

I purchased one of your branding irons and am very, very impressed with it. The machining that went into the production of the iron is fantastic. The letters are sharp and very detailed. A must purchase for those that want to add that personal touch to their projects.

Works fine. I would have liked the option to have specified a smaller imprint size so it could fit on the bottom of off small bowls.
