Great product at a great price. If you need pilot holes dead center then you need this. It just makes hinge installation so accurate and so much less stressful and your projects much, much better.

These self-centering bits are really well made. I previously had a set made by General, and what a difference in quality. You can't go wrong with these bits plus a real nice case to boot.

My wife was impressed so nothing else matters. I am very pleased with all of the merchandise I have purchased from Rockler. I look forward to my next project. Thank You

The product itself is great. I have used hinge bits in the past and decided to order a set as others that I've used are now lost or were poor quality. On the other hand, I do have two very minor gripes: 1. The case that comes with the kit is a nice touch and it will certainly help me keep things together/organized. It has 5 flip-up holders each of which has a hex-shaped socket to hold the quick-change shafts. Unfortunately, when I went to add my extra, fourth bit, I found that when bits are placed in the case adjacent to one another, they don't fit well. It would be nice if the case was designed with enough room to hold the bits straight. Minor gripe. 2. It would be helpful if one or two Allen wrenches, sized to fit the screws that hold the bits captive, were included in the set. I'll probably buy a couple to add to the case but it would be a thoughtful addition to the product. Both of these points are minor of course. In the end, this is a great product.

These work great, and do what they're supposed to do. The only thing bad is I had to replace the bits right-away. The original bits actually "smoked" their way into the maple I was using.

A nice set and very handy to have. I also own one original Vix brand version of this tool and have noted that the Vix tool has a much smaller body diameter. In some situations the Vix version fits easily while this one doesn't. The vast majority of the time the size isn't an issue, but it is something to know. Also, I just discovered that the replacement drill bit for the size 4 drill bit is a standard jobber length #47 bit. Lucky for me I have a numbered drill bit set and was able to replace a snapped bit right away instead of waiting to re-order. I suspect that the other drills are standard numbered size drill bits as well.

Used with a Jig-It, the self-centering bits were a real labor saver. They are a bit fragile, though. The nosepiece on the #8 bit was sticky and did not return to cover the drill tip well. After driving about 30 pilot holes, it snapped off. Treat them delicately.

I put this set to work the day it arrived. I have been building mobile shop cabinets with roller drawers and contiuous hinged doors. The centering bits made quick work of drilling for the cabinet drawer slides and continuous hinges for the cabinet doors and took a lot of frustration out of locating and drilling the holes.

The small bit #4 broke on the first set of hinges I used it on. The collar on the replacement stuck but WD40 seemed to help. They were quick in replacing it but it broke again. A couple weeks later the #6 broke while I was using it. The best thing about the set is the case for keeping the bits together.

Great idea. The first couple of times I used it it worked a treat, then the trouble started. Not sure if I received a dud set but the metal on the nose is shattered on the small bit and then a while later one of the drills broke off in a hole. What a mess!

I've been using this type of bit for quite awhile. It's nice to have a set to use in the Bosch PS20. I've only used the #4 so far and can say it worked as expected. I recommend them to anyone who mounts hinges and has any of the popular, small, cordless drivers.

I've found the entire Rocker Insty-Drive system to be very useful. The quick change feature is very handy. The centering bits work well, but I find they clog up and jam the barrel faster than a Vix bit. It appears they have a closer tolerance around the drill than the Vix. Overall they are very good.

This product does exactly it says it does. It works well in my chuck and the Stanley quick change chucks. I was disappointed to see that it had a black oxide finish. Most of these tools have a chrome or nickel finish which is more corrosion resistant. The deluxe nylon pouch is poorly made. The tool retaining band is only partially sewed at one end and the bit can and does full out when the case it opened.

I purchased a set of self-centering Vix bits from Rockler several years ago. The Insty-Drive feature makes these even better. I use them any time I need to center a hole in hinges, drawer slides, shelf brackets, etc. And, there's a set screw to lock in the drill bit so you can adjust the depth of the hole.

Exactly what I needed, as I am a first-time cabinet builder. I took great care creating the mortises and did not want to damage the final effect by installing off-center hinges. The bits were perfect for my Brainerd 2" x 1 3/8" butt hinges. I'm proud of the result. Thank you.

These bits are well made however I found the barrel end to be too small for [the] butt hinges (National or Stanley)[I use]. The end bottoms out on the wood before the barrel contacts the c'sink in the hinge. This allows for an off center hole. I bought this set to carry on my truck but will have to replace them with a set of standard Vix bits.

Ok, so I'm a professional contractor. I do this for a living and I'm very anal about my tools, sorry. I do have a "partial set" of self centering bits but was missing the larger #10 bit. I could have just purchased the #10, but I wanted a whole set, nice and in one case. This is my only complaint about this "set". The set is sold as a 3 piece set and I purchased the #10 to go with it. It just doesn't fit in the case, ooooffff!!!It's a problem for me, but the tool is just fine!

The smallest drill body is too large for narrow hinges. I recommend reducing the diameter where it contacts the hinge. The hole will not be on center the way it is now.

Just starting using mine. Larger sizes work flawlessly, but the #4 sticks on every use. Nose retracts for drilling, but will not return to cover bit. Have to unscrew the nose a little, it snaps back, and then retighten to use. Definitely a pain. My best guess is that the plunger that compresses the spring when the nose retracts is too small for the spring and it jams inside the spring. Based on other comments above this appears to be a common design flaw.

The case is nice and handy to carry around and keep in one place. The smallest 5/64" self center bit broke pre-drilling oak on the second try. Lucky I had a spare drill bit to substitute. Easy to change, but a bit fragile. The larger ones worked better.
