12'' Quick Release End Vise

Heavy-duty, easy-to-install steel vise will be the workhorse of your custom workbench! Machined pivoting nut engages or releases with a 1/4 turn of the 1" dia. main screw so you can easily re-position your workpiece. Extra-wide 12" O.C. guide rods provide maximum resistance to racking, while extra-wide 17-1/2" handle plate delivers maximum stability to handle any project.

New 12" on-center guide rods for mounting on the end of a bench. Also can be used as a front vise. Handle plate is drilled out and countersunk for easy attachment of wooden jaws (not included) with #12 wood screws. 19" screw and body length. 13" overall travel before wooden jaws are added. 1" dia. guide rods. Includes hardwood handle. Easy to install with included instructions. Vise plate mounts to bench with 1/4" lag bolts. Mounting hardware not included.

I equipped the shop with a new table saw, planer, drill press, new router table, compound miter-saw, dust collector, and a small wood lathe. Of course with all this wood working equipment a good work table is a must and any good wood working table needs vises. My second non-repair project (the shop being number one) was to build me a good wood working table. I fabricated the table out of 1x3x96 maple stock that I happen to have on hand. The entire table is laminate from this stock including the mortis and tenon jointed legs. The table can be seen in the upper corner of the photo. After doing weeks maybe months of research on vises I selected the Rockler 12” Quick Release Vise for my end vise for its width and it’s perceived value. The table plans that I based my table on used an double screw vise for the width of the table to prevent racking. Very expensive. I decide that based on previous quality products from Rockler and the advertised lack of racking tendency for this vise I would take a chance on it. So far I have absolutely no complaints. The vise operates smooth as silk and the quick release operates as advertised. I do a lot of clamping at one or the other ends of the vise jaws and so far no racking tendency is evident. I would highly recommend this vise as an end vise for your work bench. It would also function very well as an extra wide front vise. (click to see full-size picture in new window)

2) Submitted by G Duggan, from Edgerton, KS on 7/12/2009 Customer Rating: Very happy with the product. As others have stated, keep the box for 'basic' directions. Vice worked great. Wanted to use maple for jaws, but 8/4 maple cost as much as the vice. Used poplar and so far very happy.
