Very nice and easy to use. I use this more often than the original decimal unit that I have had for many years. I use it primarily for wood working.

This is a great little tool at a fantastic price. Mine is very accurate and operates smoothly. I miss the thumb wheel, but that is easy enough to get used to. It is plastic which has some limitations, you shouldn't try to measure something spinning on the lathe, or use it to scribe something. That falls into common sense. It is really handy to figure out what fractional drill you could use for that metric bolt you need to use in a pinch.

I will be using it for my other hobby, model railroading. Can't beat the price! The accuracy is fine for the model work I do. I like that you can switch between decimal inches and metric. My old one is a dial caliper (also made out of plastic) and has served my needs for over 20 years. The digital caliper meets all my needs today and give me a tool which will give me another 20 years of service.

The fractional digital caliper is simple to use and is already being used in some fashion in all my projects. I like the quick and easy conversion of the measurement from inch, mm and fractional measurement. I must admit I was a bit disappointed upon opening the package to find the caliper was made of plastic, must have missed that in the fine print. I guess I just assumed the caliper was made of metal. The accuracy is reasonable for wood projects, but I would not use it in a metal fabricating shop.

Note that this product is plastic. As a fine measuring instrument, it should be treated gently, but I would really be gentle to a plastic one.

This caliper is sufficient for woodworking. I would not use it for long term machine work. It seems stable enough and certainly well priced.

The price is what caught me. For an around the shop, here and there measuring, it's excellent. A metal one is better. It'll work great for my needs.

The digital readout matches my steel rule. On the caliper's own rule, there is an obstruction that comes out from under the readout housing that prevents getting an accurate reading.

Good value for the sale price. For the full retail price I think I would pay the extra and get a metal caliper. It is a plastic caliper but the repeatability of measurements is good. If you need a caliper for daily use in a business environment you need a metal caliper but for occasional use around the home shop this will be sufficient if treated gently.

When this item arrived, there were no instructions on how to use it or to install the battery. As it turns out, a battery was already pre-installed and there was also a spare battery included. I tried to install this battery before I determined that there was already a battery in the unit. I almost broke the plastic cover because of this. Once I figured this out, the unit works very well.

Not accurate-I ordered two and compared readings with a known diameter or fixture and tried out both calipers and both had different readings-I also compared readings with a non-digital caliper and had a different reading again. I know for sure the digital calipers and not reliable but might be ok for swg (scientific wild guess), and not to be used for a project where accuracy is necessary. I can get different readings on the same piece without moving the slide portion of the caliper.

My fault for not researching. It was on sale, it was late, I was lazy. Used it once, it reads fine, but already dented the jaws. It reads fractions in 1/128. 1/64 would have been more useful (at least for most tasks).
Lacks a thumb-wheel. The ridges by the battery case doesn't make for a good substitute.
It has an inch/decimal conversion table (down to 1/64) on the back which makes it easy to find the next closest drill bit.

This product was a disappointment mostly because it does not measure consistently. Often it just starts reading many numbers rapidly as if I was moving the caliper open and closed. I don't understand why, perhaps it is defective but is of no real use to me. I had a manual, non-digital version of this and it works much better.

I really haven't had a chance to use the 6" digital fractional caliper, however, I was a little disappointed to find out it was plastic. I think if I had it to do over again I would spend the extra money and get a better fractional caliper.

I would have given it five stars if there were at least a short instruction sheet with it...I mean what is the "ABS" switch for?

Editor's note: ABS stands for 'Absolute'. The switch allows one to toggle between an absolute and an incremental value.

The caliper was more cheaply made than I expected. A lot of plastic that makes the tool flimsy and prone to damage that reduces the reliability of readings over time. I won't recommend this tool.

It has a very cheap feel to it, I knew when I bought it, that is was made of plastic but I thought for the regular price that it would be made better. Also it is missing an micro adjustment wheel. To do any real measurements at all you need a micro adjustment wheel. I got it for the sale price, if I would have paid full price I would have checked on returning it. But the shipping to send it back would have been to much to even worry about returning it. If your just playing around or don't need to do any serious measurements then this maybe an OK caliper, otherwise look for another one.

Good caliper for the price. I would have rated it higher if I could control the rounding. It's a little hard to compare in your head, on the fly 73/128ths with 41/64ths. Given that this is for woodworkers primarily, not machinists, being able to set the limit at 32nds or 64ths would be handy. 128ths, are you kidding?

Definitely worth the sale price and the readout is a great feature for those of us struggling to read tiny vernier scales, but the plastic depth gauge is too flexible. The "keeper" at the bottom broke off the first time I pushed on the depth gauge to determine the depth of a hole as you can do repeatedly with a metal depth gauge. This is disappointing.

I have an old metal dial caliper that works well but as most it measures only in thousands. This one even if it is plastic mesures in thousands, fractions, and metric. My only problem with it is the fractions are broke down to small. If I have to get a caculator out to break down the fractions I can just as well use my old one and convert the thousands to fraction or mm. When trying to measure an old drill bit who knows what 69/124 is? In my why of thinking especially if you are working in wood you don't need anything broke down less than 1/32nd.

Right out of the box, I knew I had made a mistake in ordering it. It will not calibrate correctly and will not read accurately,i.e. a one inch accurate steel bar was read by the caliper as 1 127/128 almost double the size. No matter how I try to calibrate it, it will not measure any where close to actual size. I would not recommend anyone purchase it.

I broke the battery compartment on the 1st one I ordered trying to put the spare battery they send into it thinking the battery had to be installed. It wasn't worth the postage to send it back so I ordered another one. It works fine for my limited woodworking but I to was disappointed that it was made of plastic and apparently very fragile.

If you were expecting some high quality caliper for this price, you'll be sadly disappointed. On the other hand, if you just wanted something that will give you a fairly accurate measurement of the width of some wood, then this will do just fine.

I have used this product and found to be very accurate. The 'zero' button allows the product's display to be zeroed for accuracy. Very useful in measuring screw diameters before choosing a drill bit to create a pilot hole. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone needing to make accurate measurements up to 6 inches.

It is as advertised, plastic. I wanted a set of calipers to use for lathe work (measure while the piece is turning). Time will tell if the turning wood wears out the plastic. I probably should have purchased the steel calipers. I purchased them on sale - for the full price I would suggest purchasing the steel calipers.

This is a plastic device. Getting a very precise measurement is next to impossible since the plastic tends to bend and twist when closing the caliper making it improbable you will get the same result in, say, three measurements of the same object. I would only recommend using this where utmost accuracy is not required. Don't drop this caplier on the internal measuring side as the plastic points will get mangled.

As Dave said, there is a little black foam rubber strip protruding from the moving slide, which appears to be a bumper or extraneous material from the underside. You can trim it with a razor blade, but be very careful you do not take too much. Flush with the plastic housing is 1/64 off from the indicator. I did that, then had to shim the edge back out with tape to the point where I am visually accurate with the scale.

After I received the caliper, I played with it by measuring my cirular saw blade. I found that the calibration would not zero out, and I would get a different reading each time when I tried to measure the thickness of the blade. I guess it is what it is. It will be ok for wood projects but not for really accurate metal work.

This is an "all plastic" tool. Won't last long for hard measurement but OK for the price and general woodworking. I would not pay more then this sale price for it. The description say "Poly" and that says Plastic. You should look for good metal parts that contact your material when buying this type tool for hard work.

This product seems to work very well and appears to be accurate. The price was right for me. The only problem I have is it's made of plastic. You will have to treat it very carefully. I was suprised it was plastic but it should not have been a suprise as it's clearly stated in the description and many of the reviews.

I was initially able to use this caliper despite it not having a thumbwheel by reserving it for non-delicate operations such as tracking tenon thickness for a mortise joint. After perhaps 10 hours of use it began to malfunction as it would not consistently settle on a readout, but kept hunting around. Shortly thereafter it just became a random number display until I chucked it in frustration.

This caliper is made of a very light weight plastic material so it needs gentle handling.
But, the convenience of instant conversions from decimal to fractional is GREAT TO HAVE.
I treat mine gently and it does its job.
