Whether squaring up mortises with a chisel or dismantling a clock with a screwdriver, it's always nice to be able to switch tools quickly without breaking your concentration. That's where the Magnetic Tool Holder comes in handy. With hardly a sideways glance, you can drop one tool onto it, and grab the next. Unlike many other magnetic holders, this one has two magnetic bars to provide stability with flat-faced tools and a little extra grab. The Magnetic Tool Holder measures 2'' Wide X 18'' Long. It is not intended for heavy tools with a round profile, such as for turning gouges.

Nice wood finish, generous size, easy installation with pre-drilled holes and mounting screws included. Magnet could be stronger as some items tend to slide or shift but it's a simple, inexpensive solution to the tool clutter problem. Very satisfied.

I am a cabinet maker, but I've used these tool holders as knife holders in my kitchen. The same product at a kitchen store is priced out of my range. These are pretty too.

There are certainly more powerful magnets around but I found these adequate to hold my chisels (inside a cabinet) and even some planes securely enough that I made a repeat purchase. If you really want to sticky your car on the wall, buy some rare earth magnets and make your own strip, but if what you want is a reasonably sound product wait for the sale and grab a couple. They may not stop Ironman, but they'll hold your chisels to the wall.

I got this item to help retrofit my shop so I can access my tools easier. I am confined to a wheelchair and am paralized from my stomach down, so this item was essential to putting commonoly used tools within my reach. The magnet is strong and extremely helpful for me.

I am a wood carver. I built a shelf and used these magnetic holders for my gouges and knives. They are as a rule light and the magnetic holders worked great for what I needed them for.

These toolholders are of a great quality and finish. I used them as knife holders in my wife's kitchen. She has a large professional set and needed more room for them and these came in handy. They look great in her kitchen and were much cheaper to buy from Rockler than a kitchen supply store. I will get more for my own tools now.

Wood and magnetic components are fine, but what's with the screws? They only protrude out the back about 1/4" and cannot hold the tool holder to textured drywall. It'd be nice to include some longer screws.

Kind of hard to go wrong with no moving parts. It's got a very nice finish and strong magnet. The mounting screws could be longer, given the possible weight in hanging tools, but over-all I'm pleased. It was a definite bargain on sale.

I finally made the move and bought a pair of magnets. Seems every time you put a tool away your looking for it a few minutes later. Now they are right above the work bench in arms reach, saves the short but annoying walk back and forth to the tool box. Will definitly get a couple more.

I am installing these in our house that is under construction. I look forward to putting a couple in the kitchen area to hold my knives and one in my laundry area for my pliers, screwdrivers, etc., that I usually have kept in a kitchen drawer. Now everything will be organized and easy to find. Rockler delivered my products very fast and I was very impressed with that and will certainly order from them again.

The magnetic tool holder was just what I needed for my shop update. I bought two for over the workbench to hold the most common hand tools for my work. They hold tight, and if I ever decide to hold large wrenches or such, I will buy two to place one for the top and the other for the bottom of the tool.
Good buy, good product!

I hesitated for a long time before getting one of these for my woodturning tools, because I figured it wouldn't handle the big bowl gouges and such. And indeed, it won't take the heavier round-cross-section tools, because too much of the metal is too far away from the magnets. The idea of using two of them is probably the answer. In the meantime, though, it's revolutionized my turning environment -- I swap among tools a lot, and it's fantastic to have the basic ones right at hand!

I purchased this to hold my wood turning tools. Turns out that there is not enough surface area on the tools to be held adequately.
So, it does work but consider how you want to use it and realize that the magnet is not strong enough for curved tool surfaces.

This mag holder does just what I expectd it to do. If I were to want to hold big tools I think I would mount one just below the other, but for what I needed they are just great. Very good price too. Thanks Rockler.

We're in the process of building a small cottage/cabin. Keeping up with all the small hand tools my husband and his son left all over was driving me nuts. I threw one of these up between a couple studs, and now I know when they've snagged my knife, square, needle nose, etc. And when we're done, it will be my kitchen knife rack!

Fine item to reduce clutter in the shop. I tend to pile up hand tools and drill bits at the workstation - making them difficult to find under layers of dust. The strong magnetic holders mounted near every work station keeps tiny items (drill bits, loose chuck keys, etc.) from getting lost as well as heavier items (Chisel, scissors, screwdrivers, wrenches) safely and clearly at hand. Having small tools easily at hand and out of the way really save time searching and cleaning. Check out the wall mounted router bit racks too. Both indispensible.

I purchased one of these and then another for my old (small) shop. I just moved into a new, larger shop and now have five mag strips. The magnets are strong enough to get the job done but not so strong that you have problems removing things. I use these for everything from chisels to drill bits to hand tools and more. I recommend these mag strips to anyone who has the need to keep things handy!

For the price you can't beat them! I do agree with others on strength of magnets for larger tools but I use them to hold all the small drill bits and other items that get lost in the tool drawers in my shop, and there are 72 drawers to dig through! So they work great for me. Rockler is always fast with delivery and thats a great thing!

I got 2 of these a couple of years ago for my kitchen knives. I had seen the very same thing in cooking catalogs and specialty shops for $25 and $30. The only difference is the magnets are a lot stronger on these than the ones sold in the kitchenware shops.

These work for relatively light items. Even then, it's best if the metal surface coming in contact with the strip is flat. I bought two magnetic tool holders to hold my turning tools. The magnet simply is not strong enough to hold my bowl gouges, scrapers, skews, or other full size tools. It will hold other items, such as Allen keys for my chucks and the drill bits I use for turning projects. Just don't expect these to hold anything heavy -- not more than 1 lb per inch of contact, I'd say.

The tool holder lacks the magnetic strength to safely hold a 16 oz hammer. Screw drivers slide down but hold, though they can release if your bench is knocked into. This one is fine for squares or other items with a broad metal section.

Actually, I'm a little disappointed with this magnetic tool holder. I guess I was hoping for a more powerful magnet that would hold some bigger items. It holds the smaller items OK as long as the metal is larger than the handle, i.e. it doesn't hold my 1/8 inch chissel as well as it does the larger ones - less metal to grab onto. The larger ones hold fine unless they are too heavy - like a larger screw driver. However, and it's a big however, this magnetic tool holder is much more functional that the holders made for peg boards. I holds more in less space. And it doesn't matter how small the item is. (Small items fall right through the peg board holders. Finally, I bought two of these. I'm not sending either of them back because they do serve a useful purpose in addition to the peg board holders.

I've seen similar magnetic strips elsewhere but they all lacked 'holding' power. The last thing I need is for a sharp chisel or other edged tool to fall off hit the floor and maybe hit someone. Being cautious I bought one to try it out and when it arrived the magnet strip seemed too small to me. But I've hung a variety of tools on it and so far they have been securely held.

Nice finish but magnet is too weak to hold tools like screw drivers that don't have that much surface area for the magnet to attract. Would work ok for knives etc.

Only fair rating here. The magnets aren't that strong so I sure wouldn't put something sharp (as in the photo) on it. It's ok for small screwdrivers or lightweight things though. The appearance is quite nice, I just wish they magnets had more strength!

I ordered these thinking that they would be above the quality of the run-of-the-mill holders that most hardware stores carry... Wrong. I'm very disappointed with these... I find that I need to put extra disc magnets on the board to hold basic needle-nose, side cutters, etc. And, full size pliers could never be held up by this unit without extra magnets!

These magnetic holders are strongest I've found. Also, they are a great price. I use them around a work station that I sit at much of the day. I wouldn't trust any other brand to hold up the very sharp tools I have surrounding me and higher than my head.

Beware if you intend to use this product on SlotWall, Storewall.
Well made magnetic tool holders at a great price, but...
Although there are photos showing these mounted on SlotWall they do not come with hardware to do this. After help from the customer relations folks at Rockler (very nice) I ordered the Storwall hardware needed BUT, this also does not match the tool holder. I had to go to [hardware store]and buy 8x1/2" self taping screws to secure the hardware to the back of the magnet bar to allow hanging on slotwall. If you don't mind the fuss, go ahead but there are comparable products on garage outfitters sites that will do this out of the box. Otherwise, I am happy with the Rockler folks. Even got some help with this from my local Rockler retail store.

I have three different kinds of magnetic tool holders. I returned this one because the part that holds the tool is two tiny strips of metal that stick out from the magnet. It would not even hold a screwdriver very securly.

The magnets are not strong enough to hold the tools from dropping off with minor movement. I bought it as a temporary tool holder for a standalone bench but have since relegated to a remote area of the wall. I have 8 chisels on the 18" bar (not crowded). The 1/2" chisel has dropped off several times while removing the adjacent one and I will no longer put the 1/4" chisel on it. This is probably not the item you want if you are planning on actively taking the tools on and off.
