Right out of the box these templates were making money for me. I did some research prior to purchase, so I pretty much knew what to expect. I followed all the tips by previous posters, like using a little talcum powder and ordering the brass bushing. That little plastic thing stayed in, and will remain in the box. A couple letters did not want to fit together initially, but a scrape with a utility knife fixed that. Most important tip - TAKE YOUR TIME. I am very happy with these sets, I got letters and numbers.

The letters work well, they snap together easily and stay in place when taped. As for the nylon bushing supplied- spend the extra few bucks and get the brass bushing- 3/8 for 2 1/4" letters and 5/8 for the larger letters. The nylon bushing disintegrates after a few letters. Don't take the chance of ruining your project! I built a hickory toybox and almost ruined it when the nylon bushing disintegrated causing the router bit to cut into the letter. Fortunately, I caught it in time and repaired the letter. Otherwise a good product fdor the cost!

What great product. The 2 1/4 Deluxe set is a great value. The included plastic bushing is OK if you are
very careful and feed the work slow. A little dusting of talcum powder makes my router slide much easier. But I will be ordering the brass bushing. Now I wish Rockler would offer the 4 inch in a Deluxe set.

I bought the 2 1/4 deluxe set #42129 and the brass bushing,as I read the reviews on the plastic bushings. They were right no good after the third letter it broke !!! The set up is very easy except some of the letters were hard to snap together because they were new and they do stay together. This is why I only gave it a four star rating. After I installed the brass bushing and made two signs and they both turned out great !!! I also read the review on buying extra letters for one dollar, I just ordered another set for $20.00,so I should have all the numbers and letters I will ever need to make any sign. Maybe you could add a few bucks to the price and add the bushing to the set.

The kit is quick to set up, easyt to use and hard to mess up. Most of the negative reviews I have seen are from those with too little experience. I have made many signs with these kits and I love it. If you're having trouble smoothly moving your router across the template, throw a little baby powder on the template and the router will glide smoothly around your layout. Overall, I think this is the best kit on the market and wouldn't use any other! I would like to see different types of font if possible, but otherwise no complaints here!

I had trouble with the old set of letters etc that I had been using. After reading the reviews, I ordered the Interlock Signmaker's kit and am greatly pleased with the results. I also ordered the brass bushing. I had no problems. I used a Dewalt plunge router and all signs turned out well.

I ordered the 2 1/4" letter set, bushing and bit with some trepidation after reading the reviews. I was pretty certain I would ruin some letters first time out, but my 1st practice run produced near perfect results, and the 2nd was about as good as one could expect. I just took my time and made sure the router was up all the way when inserting the bushing, all the way down when routing and all the way up before moving to the next letter. Also, I traced the path before plunging the bit to get the feel of each letter. Using tape to hold the template to the work seemed a little kludgey, but it makes for fast and easy positioning.

I like the templates themselves. The plastic bushing that comes with the set is poor. The brass bushing is much better, however the bushing center guide is shallow. It is easy to misplace the router, missing the letter slot. When this happens you have to buy a new letter template. It would be good if the center guide could be a little deeper.

The template set performs as advertised. I would throw away the included plastic guide bushing and only use the optional brass bushing. Also it would be nice if you could buy individual letters to expand the set or to replace the first letter you ruin using the plastic guide bushing. I also found it helpful to add blank spacers ahead of the first letter and behind the last letter to give the router base additional support routing the first and last letters.

These templates are easier to use than others I have used. This set will probably be the only one I use now. Included plastic bushing is not good and ill-fitting. I use a Porter Cable router and it ate it up and ruined one letter. Buy the brass bushing. A clear router base would make things easier too.

The stencils are fine although I ruined a few due to the Plastic Bushings included in the kit. The plastic got hot & as a result I ruined some of my letters. I wish the Brass was suggested right at the beginning as I would definitely have ordered the Brass. Better yet, why not include them with the kits. In my case, the Brass will now be triple the price by the time I pay their cost, shipping and taxes. I am so anxious to continue with the stencils - once I get the Brass Bushings

I bought the 4in #'s, the 2-1/4 letters, bushings, and bits. They did the job but errors were made. Some spots tend to move in the templates, maybe go a little thicker or more durable plastic would help. Bushing's could use a little more length to make it really easy to follow the templates. Last thing different fonts would be nice. With a couple of practice cuts you still can make a real nice sign in less time with these kits.

I received the 4" letter kit as a gift from my wife after being frustrated with the Milescraft signmaker kit. On my first attempt to use the kit, my router slipped out of the template and cut into the letters. After doing this to two different letters I realized that the board I was using to test this out had a very slight cup to it and the bushing wasn't making contact with the template in the middle of each letter. Switched to a better quality board and it worked beautifully. It took a fraction of the time of my Milescraft kit to setup and make the cut. Also without the extra hardware in the way to hold the templates, seeing what you are cutting is much easier. A Plunge router is the best way to go on this kit. I only wish there were different fonts offered for different style signs.

I purchased the 2 1/4" letters and numbers, along with the router bit and bushing. After only waiting 2 days for them to arrive, I started making signs. All four of our kids wanted one for their rooms. All have different ideas of how they should look. The system is so easy to set up, and change, every one got exactly what the wanted. I am so happy that I bought this one. I am planning to buy extra letters (common ones) for longer signs, so I don't have to use spacers and fill them in later. Awesome, fool proof system. You are only limited by your imagination with this one.

Purchased the letter kit, router bit, and 3/8 brass bushing. Turns out the letter kit comes with a plasic 3/8 bushing that works fine. Wish the description would have stated that. The letter kit works good but sometimes the bushing slips out way to easy and your router eats up the letter. I read that letters are availiable for purchase at $1 each. Other than that it works fine.

I bought the Interlocking Signmaker's Templates, 5/8" Router Bit & Bushing for the pictured sign. However, I modified the templates to look a little more like Block Letters (a little more formal) for the Fire House. Did this by cutting and gluing in pieces of the plastic templates. The Fire Dept. is very happy with the results.

I got the both number, & letter sets. I ordered the number set, then about a few weeks later I ordered the letter set, because they work great. I already had the Craftsman set, but the set up took a while to set up.
These work great, a 100% better. Just in set up time alone, but I like the way the layout can be ajusted to get an angle on a board with ease. Plus, they just handle lots easier.

The interlock sign kit is an excellent idea but not well executed Instead of compressed paper the templates would be more durable made from hard plastic.

I purchased both the numbers and large lettering kit templates, with bushing and bit. The idea I think is sound but, the letters don't lay perfectly flat when snapped together especially ones with narrow edges, router base catches on the seams then. The blue tape down doesn't work well either. It doesn't adhere all the well to bare wood. My router base wouldn't slide on the tempates easily either, rather sticky in fact , wax may help that. The tape gets peeled back with the router base, and causes sticking and jumping out of the slot since the bushing is so shallow in nature. I think double stick tape would work much better, or use a blank letter at each end if your work piece is long enough and staple them to the work. I had to make multiple passes with the router to clean out marks because of the loose fit of the bushing to template. This item maybe good for some applications as I see in a few of the other reviews. I ruined three letters with the router first time out. I'll not use this one again since I ruined the "O","F" and "W" there are only one "F" in the set. I can't recommend this product for sure. Sign ruined Three letters ruined and I'm back to square one.

Editor's note: For use tips:
1)Be sure to be using a plunge router. This allow you to set the bushing down into each letter before plunging the bit down to make the cut.
2)There isn't a specific spot to start on a letter, but there is a bit of play between the bushing and the letter cutout area, so you'll want to be sure to go around both edges of the letter all the way around. This will give you cleaner looking letter.
3)Wood dust can built up around the bushing and bit, so be sure to raise it up and clean it out often.
4)When you complete a letter be sure to raise the plunged bit out of the letter with your router's plunge feature before you lift the router and bushing out of the letter. This will prevent damage to the templates from the bit inadvertently cutting them.
Individual replacement letter templates are available $1.00 each by calling 800-376-7856.

I changed to a brass bushing but found the pattern to be too thin for proper guidance and like others chewed up a letter or two. I am taking a deep breath and will give it another try soon. If I continue with poor results I will have to decide if the operator is too inexperienced or if the product needs design changes.

These are made of plastic and work well most of the time. however some areas of the letters tend to "give" a bit if you apply too much pressure. In my opinion make them out of aluminum and make them in America and you would have a superior product, even if they cost a bit more.

I bought the 4" numbers, and the 4" letters. They did the job but errors were made. I ruined 4 of the letters and I hope individual letters are available for purchase. I also found that by taping the top and bottom of the templates don't work too good. I used double sided tape to hold the templates down and now I have to find a way to get the tape off the letters. The templates need to be a little thicker or or made from a more durable plastic. Bushing could use a little more length to make it really easy to follow the templates. With a couple of practice cuts you still can make a real nice sign, with a lot of care, in less time with these kits. A plunge router works better than a regular router.

This is an excellent item. I am making Christmas for everybody this year. I have routed name after name and not one slip up. put the name together and I use shipping tape to hold to wood. I like using a 1/4 inch cutter instead of a letter bit. I like a flat bottom. Then I made a tool out of a grade 8 bolt 10 inches long and ground to fit the slot and put a little bend in it and then I take my torch where I use to run a business and heat the tip of my tool and burn away the bottom of the slot. Be careful where you hold your touch in one hand while the other is doing the burning because you can let that hand wander where it should not. I made me a holder for the torch head after I burned some wood and wiring. this is a very fast way to burn the bottom of the letter or number. The way the letters and numbers lock together works very good and is very fast. I but all my letters and numbers on the wall in order and I just go over and pick the name I need and I am ready to go. As long as you use the correct insert for your router that fits the letter slot it is easy.

I recently purchased the 2 1/4 template set. I used and enjoyed the product very much, and after a short learning curve I made a very credible sign for our church youth group. I would have preferred to have the letters commpletly routed but the necessary webs to connect the "islands" of letters with isolated regions such as A, B, D, O, Q and R, etc. prevented this necessitating either freehanding or otherwise removing the "webs." I finally accepted the letters as supplied with the webs in place. I would suggest that you consider supplying the following for each of these letters. If you provide another of the same letter in exactly the came format except that the web or webs would be in other places. By replacing the original letter by the alternative while the adjoining letters are still taped in place will allow accurate removal of the webs. I also found that placing either a blank or an unused letter at each end of a line of templates gave better support to the router base. Based on other reviews I ordered the brass bushing and found the performance of the combination to be excellent.

I have only tried this product once so far, but I am not impressed at the moment. The brass bushing which I purchased as an extra is not deep enough, and my Porter Cable plunge router ruined 4 letters by skipping across the inside corners and gouging out the plastic on some of the letters.
I called tech support who said that I need to use double side tape in between the letters to ensure that they are held firm to the wood. They are replacing the damaged letters for me. I will give it another try using extra tape to see if this makes a difference. I did a second try, but this time used my own Porter Cable bushing which is thicker and deeper than the brass one supplied by Rockler. This worked better and did not skip any letters.

Got the 2-1/4" letters & Numbers. The plastic bushing is nearly useless/worthless. It is also not a standard bushing size, so none of the commercial brass bushings work in its place. Templates are cheap, flimsy, that do not really fit together well, leaving a rough surface that the router can hang up on. They also move too much. I will be returning these.

Editor's note: 33967 is the brass bushing that is available for use with the 2-1/2" size templates. 30933 is the brass bushing for the 4" size.

The kit came with a cheap plastic bushing that lasted for two letters then the lip was gone and ruined the next letter.  I bought the kit and the bit that was recomended at the same time. I then got out my brass bushing set to use with the kit also from Rockler and they will not work as the have a much longer shank and the letters are not thick enough to work with the good bushings without grinding the bushings down, I will not do that as the one bushing is worth more than the cheap kit.

Editor's Note: The optional  bushings 30933 and 33967 in this optional are brass bushings that have the shorter length specific for use with these templates.

Not good. I had to use two face tape to keep the letters from flexing and that is a messy situation. The plastic bushing that comes with the kit is worthless. I purchased the brass bushing after the plastic bushing chipped-out and ruined two letters. Too bad Rockler does not sell replacement letters. I think I will scrap the whole thing and buy the Milescraft sign maker's kit. I am disappointed as this is my first real problem with a Rockler product after years of good service. You should not even put the plastic bushing in the kit.

I have just started to use the kit. The letters lock together nicely and the kit seems to be well made. If you plan on routing more than one letter though, you will need to immediately throw away the plastic guide bushing that comes with the kit. It is a piece of junk and will ruin your letter templates. I routed one letter and was starting the second one when the router veered into the template, ruining the template. I soon discovered that the plastic bushing was toast- after only one letter. I have since ordered the brass bushing and hope I have no more problems.

I ordered this to do some signs for the "Backpacks for Kids" charity. Wouldn't ya know. Took one look at the plastic bushing and ordered the brass one. I do suspect that some of the reviewers that have had problems with the plastic bushings have failed to center their router for bushing use though. Some of the reports the bushing seems to have failed to quickly even for plastic. JMHO. Anyway, back to my issues. Got the brass guide in and went to set up the sign... Surprise, not enough letters to do the first one without putting blanks in and doing what I could and then doing it again. I just got done ordering the supplement letter kit to go with this one. Checked and still won't have enough letters for the first sign... Much better though, will only have to setup twice instead of once. Reading the reviews here, I just found out I can order individual letters. I will probably do that later because I paid with PayPal and thus cannot modify the order at this point. Right now, I'm just about 200% of budget on this little charity project and am less than happy as I have yet to cut a letter. I would give this a 5 on concept and zeros on kit content and quality. I also have a Milescraft kit but it doesn't allow the letter placement flexibility I needed for this project because of sign size limitations. I really have yet to find a sign kit that really works well anyway.

I received my template set yesterday and tried to use it today. Some observations: 1. Do not under any circumstances use the furnished plastic router bushing. It self destructed on the second test letter, damaging the letters as well. The template projection is far too short to prevent your router bit from slipping out of the slot and cutting into the template. Throw the plastic bushing away unused and get a brass or aluminum bushing manufactured correctly. 2. The templates are very thin {3/32"} soft plastic, and will damage very easily. They should be thicker , preferably 1/4" thick. 3. The "taping down" the template with masking tape also does not work, due to the extreme thinness of the template, causing your router to want to slip out of the template. I had satisfactory results with thick double stick tape.
