I just started getting into carving and I'm really happy with the quality of these chisels. They were already sharp when I initially opened the set so I was able to start carving right away. I would also recommend buying the Flexcut Slipstrop with the kit as it's really important to keep your tools sharp. It's easy to use and affordable.

Intro to carving, set was polished sharp directly from the box and the grip is well designed and comfortable. Bought for the price and was happy. I'm not a sranger to tools and these are good quality. I've used everyone including the 1/8 gouge. I would recommend buying a leather strop and abrasive to keep them honed and mirrior sharp. Flexcut sells a good small wooden one with leather glued to it for around $15; it works well for chisels of this size. Do some research on how to sharpen, youtube.com has some good advice as well as other carving web sites.

I have had these tools for 5 years now and have done many carvings with these. Works great for 3D work as well as block prints. While the tools are small, they are well made and very high quality (especially for the price!). Hone with leather and you will not have any problems. The small U-gouge is pretty worthless, but the others are stellar. Great for small to med carvings. A great set at an amazing price... hard to beat the Power Grips.

New to wood carving and wanted to try it before spending more money on a more permanent set of tools. This filled the bill. Rockler has always been quick to fill and deliver my orders and was with this one. I ordered them with the Flexcut slip strop (item 60353)to use for sharpening.

I received the item very fast, and it is a high quality set of tools. I ordered it with the Flexcut slip strop (item 60353), which matches it well. It requires resharpening periodically (as one would expect), but the slip strop sharpens it fast, and it holds an edge well.

Great tools for the price. They come very sharp and stay that way. They hold an edge as well as my more expensive chisels.

These are really great tools, which come with a very sharp edge. They hold an edge very well. I have done at least 100 carvings with them and only had to hone them on leather. They still are very sharp.

This is a GREAT set for the price, especially for beginners. I recommend this set to my printmaking students when they do woodblock and linoleum block carving, and the tools are pretty fantastic. They come out of the box sharp and hold a decent edge.

For the money these have been very dependable gouges. They were very sharp when I recieved them and have been very easy to keep sharp. My only complaints. 1. the handle is a little loose on one and moves around. But I will glue and take care of that. 2. They went on sale the week after I bought mine. Happy carving!

Set is of lower quality than I expected and quite small overall. Good for occasional hobby use but not for a serious carver.

The only complaint with these tools is that the shank is too short, resulting in the handle spliting and making them useless except for extremely light-weight use.

These are like kiddie's play toys. They are as cheap as can be, worth maybe fifty cents at a 99 cent store.
