The Mini Jit It fixture really helped me install shelves for the bookcase I was building. The tool was easy to use and made the job much faster and a lot more accurate.

After assembly, my first and (so far) only attempt at using the jig to assemble a "T" junction in two pieces of 3/4 MDF resulted in the destruction of the Minifix KD barrel fitting when I attempted to turn it a full half-turn, likely due to misalignment of the large hole.

This jig serves its purpose well. For the price, quality and workmanship of the handle was poor. The screw holes were undersized and torn out. I had to re-drill the holes to get the barrel to fit. The assembly instructions were poor. There was no illustration for the location and orientation of the clamp. I had to return to the website and, thankfully, found an illustration showing the clamp location and orientation.

The jig does what it intends to, but really is not the quality that I expect from Rockler. The metal bushing is press-fit into the wood handle, and after using it only a few times the bushing started to come loose. It certainly would not be difficult to make a quality jig for the same or less cost.

For [price] I expected an actual pre-assembled jig, not bunch of parts. I also expected a better quality, with handle being made of something more durable and stable than piece of soft pine. I would expect at least HDPE block for the handle.
Because the handle is wood, the precision is lacking: the bushing in my jig didn't fit well. I was forced to hammer it in, and because wood dried out, it ended-up being skewed, so I had to remove it, fill and re-drill the hole, and then reinstall the bushing. You would be better off buying just the bushing from hardware store and get a small lexan plate at [home center] and make your own jig - you'll have same precision and pay less money. This was a big let down.

I didn't have a problem with the barrels like a previous commenter but the instructions weren't the best. It took me a few moment to figure out what they were asking for and ultimately just had to figure it out on my own. However, I would not suggest trying to make the holes for the Minifix pieces without this. It was invaluable and probably the only reason I didn't pull my hair out.

The instructions refer to parts not included and assume a particular Minifix fastener configuration which is not universally what I will be using. The instructions do not tell you to drill an 8mm hole through the wooden block that is the "handle". You need to remove the paper from the acrylic plate before assembling it {the paper is attached so securely that it is not obvious that it should be removed}. The reference mark is on the top side of the acrylic plate rather than on the contact side so you are always dealing with parallax error - and the reference mark is not filled with black ink/paint so it can be hard to see. The alignment of the 8mm bushing is questionable, especially if you use it to bore the hole through the "handle" without a drill press and a good 90° reference. There is not a usable diagram of the assembled jig to be found in the package or on the instruction sheet. The instructions on how to use it are opaque and perhaps best ignored. The kit includes extra parts that have no apparent function, do not show up on the instructions, and are not referred by the instructions. The instructions refer to an Allen wrench as if one were included in the kit {it is not} and they refer to "the automatic center punch" as if it too were included {it is not}. There are notches located on each side of the template that are referred to but not shown in any of the instruction diagrams. The instructions for making Corner L-Joints are incorrect. You should use the 8mm bushing to drill the holes for the Minifix bolts and the instructions lead you to believe that those holes should be drilled free-hand. This is not worth the $ being charged. As an aside, you can use a 5/16" drill and doweling guide to bore the "8mm" holes for the 8mm Minifix bolts and you will have no problems. This also means that you can adapt a 5/16" bushing or doweling jig to do the job of this kit and have more flexibility and less frustration. Just spend some time understanding the geometry of the Minifix system so you know how to adapt the hole locations to your intended purpose.

Agree with many of the comments - Here are the issues: 1. Illustrations are required to put them together 2. Why wouldn't it come pre-assembled? 3. No pre-drilled holes for the clamp assembly. 4. Confusing illustrations for joints I am still struggling to do a corner L joint as a test for the past 3 hours.
OK - in continuation with my last comment - to be very fair to the product, I will rate it 3 stars yes, I am changing my opinion - here is why: The Jig helps you to accurately mark those measurements that are otherwise difficult to mark. But I stick to my earlier comment that the product should be made better based on the comments given here. 3 stars because - 1 I was able to figure it out and my L joint fits tight and flush - 2 Hafelethe inventor of minifix sells this for 90$.. so 38$ is worth the cost, if you are using it in volume I got to make a 160 of them for my 15 feet wall cabinet.
