Here's something to consider when selecting hinges...
Look at your cabinet design before selecting hinges. On Eurostyle cabinets,
hinges are attached directly to the cabinet side. This gives you the option
of fully overlaying, half overlaying or insetting the door within the opening,
as shown below:
Overlay
Applications
If you decide to use an overlay cabinet design, select full overlay hinges
for the ends and half overlay hinges in the middle of a row of cabinets.
Inset Applications
Inset doors are recessed into the cabinet carcass to create a completely
flush, clean-lined look. |
|
Self-closing hinges are an ideal for cabinets. The built-in spring pulls the door closed and holds it in a closed position, eliminating the need for catches.
Soft-closing hinges have an adjustable action that, when your door is pushed closed, automatically takes over and brings your door to a whisper-soft close.
Free-swing hinges are most often used in furniture applications, rather than cabinet applications. |
|
| Use
the chart to determine how many hinges you'll need for the height and weight
of your door.
A door
that is 43'' high and weighs 14 lbs. requires three hinges. If your door
is only 24'' high but weighs 14 lbs., go with three hinges for maximum
support and stability.
Use
on 5/8'' - 3/4'' doors unless otherwise noted. |

I thought about using a different type of hinge for my project, but I'm glad I didn't. The hinges are easy to install and can easily be adjusted for a perfect fit. If you have problems getting doors to fit right, I recommend using these hinges! I'll certainly use them again.

Expensive but worth the money. The adjustments available on these hinges help compensate for my shortcomings as a cabinet maker. I used them for an inset door and I'm glad I bought them. Easy to install and great results.

I have one cabinet in my home office (actually one of a row of kitchen cabinets, some with drawers, this one with door and interior shelving) that opens in an inconvenient direction because of its location in a corner. I have kitchen height base cabinets and countertop along the wall with this one at the right end and then a desk height piece of countertop on the adjoining wall that has two desk height cabinets at the far end away from this cabinet. When this one is open it extends past the end of the lower counter top to the wall behind the lower countertop. The problem is access to that back end of this extension through the open door, which opens to the left but only to 90 degrees. It makes it very difficult to reach the computer equipment I keep there (cable modem, router, Ethernet switch, etc, plus printer ink and photo paper storage. The way the cabinet is constructed makes it very difficult to move the hinges to the other side. But this clever hinge from Rockler either opens wide enough to provide adequate access or can be easily clicked off and set aside for more room to work inside the end space. It's a wonderful solution for problem doors.

These hinges are idiot proof. I've been using a similar hinge from another source that accomplishes the same results. The difference is the ease of installation and adjustments of the Blum Hinge.

To begin with, I've never used Blum hinges before. Given my distaste for "doors and drawers" in my projects, I was looking for an idiot-proof hinge system, and this appears to be it! They have enough adjustments to make up for my numerous imperfections, and they function perfectly. The Rockler jigs and self-centering bit really helped to make the process a smooth one. Now for the drawers...

I have an old cabinet that had worn out a pair of this type of hinge. However, I had ordered the wrong type and returned these. I then ordered the inset style.
These were exactly what was needed to fix this cabinet.Yea for Rockler only place I found to get them!

Built all the cabinetry in our new home last year and am adding a few more. Used these hinges exclusively and found them easy to install and extremely easy adjust. All of our cabinet doors are full inset and the hinges were a huge help in adjusting door gaps, etc.

I used 120 degree Blum hinges to replace 20 year old hinges. I only had to remove the old hinges and install the new ones using the original screw holes!

I decided to build my own entertainment center. The completed unit is actually 5 cabinets with 6 flush doors and 4 drawers. Needless to say I have put much time and effort into this project so the only hardware I will trust is what I purchase through Rockler. Hinges, drawer glides and lighting nothing but the best. The entire piece is almost 12 ft. long and 7 1/2 ft. tall and encloses my big screen and all the electronics. The doors fit exactly as do the drawers thanks to the great products I get from Rockler.

This review is for the Hinge Cup Drilling Jig A. It works exactly as advertised. I would only want two things from it:
1. location marks for the small screw holes, just so I have those too.
2. A note somewhere on the block to indicate which jig it is, and what the cup dimension is for this jig. I've marked mine with an indelable marker, but a factory note would be nice.
And as a side note, I've used the Blum 120 clip-top hinges that go with this jig. They work great.

I used these to hang cabinet doors which are half inset with a decorative moulding cut round the sdges. This means that, in addition to fitting very precisely up and down and side-to-side, they also have to be inset exactly the right distance. These hinges allowed me to do that with great ease.

This was my first time using these hinges and I am very pleased with the results. I hung six doors on three large storage cabinets with no difficulty. The snap on covers are a nice touch. These cabinets will live in a family room and the covers provide an added decore to distinguish these doors and cabinets from less stylish kitchen cabinets. The closure feature does tend to slam the doors shut more than I would like, but I will dampen that with soft felt pads. The Rockler, 35mm carbide tipped Forstner bit cut the cups clean and accurate in solid oak.

I used these hinges to replace two damaged hinges in a customers kitchen cabinet. They were simple to install, they look great because of the trim pieces and they work very well. I also like the three way adjustments. My customer was very pleased and happy that I was able to replace her old hinges.

With the assistance of hinge cup hole set back specifications found in Blum documentation, eleven doors were installed with overlay hinges and a quartet inch overlay was achieved on all doors with no adjustment required. Knowing the exact setback measurement to accomplish my target overlap resulted in the full range of adjustment. In the past, the use of an 'average' setback measurement forced an adjustment to the extreme, to accomplish the desired overlap...leaving no further adjustment flexibility.
The screw covers that Rockler provides are pretty slick too.

I have used these hinges on several different projects and they are easy to install and adjust but to make the installation very easy you should buy the jig for drilling the large hole in the door and the jig for the screw holes in the cabinet. That way everything lines up and works great.

I've recently finished a complete kitchen build with all cabinets using Blum hinges. Also built a vanity cabinet for a client using them as well. These hinges are easy to install, forgiving, in that adjustments can be made so uniform gaps are easy to achieve, and out of sight.
They allow the doors to be removed and replaced in seconds. I'll use this hinge in all my door applications, whenever possible.

These are great hinges. The only other aspect that would be nice, is that they make an adjustment slot for the mounting clip for the cabient side. The adjuster screw sometimes is not quite enough for us home project guys.

The Blum hinge is very easy to install. It has three way adjustments. The full and half hinges I bought, also worked very well in a full overlay and half overlay applications.
