It beads, coves, planes, trims end grain and much more! The Spindlemaster is ideal for small projects like boxes and rattles, and works just as effectively on large pieces like bedposts and staircase spindles. If you have reservations about using a skew chisel, the Spindlemaster is the answer.

Taming the skew is perhaps the most common of problems encountered by the woodturner. The digs-ins which ensue from incorrect presentation cause many turners to avoid using the skew chisels and consequently reduce their skills and limit their opportunities of turning between centres. The new Spindlemaster does away with this problem. Its design is flat on one surface, and the oval on the other making dig-ins a thing of the past. It is easy to use for even the least experienced turner. In addition to doing the regular planning job of the skew chisel, the Spindlemaster will also cut both beads and coves with the greatest ease. The Spindlemaster gives a fine finish every time. That is a particular advantage when working on soft woods like pine which normally leave a very coarse finish.

Micro Spindlemaster - Since it's introduction, the Spindlemaster has become the favorite tool of many turners. That is not surprising when you consider it's advantages - it has no corners to dig in, it planes, beads, coves and trims end grain, and it's polished bevel gives a superb finish from the tool especially on softer woods. Now this micro version has been introduced with all the same advantages. That makes it ideal for those specializing in miniature work, bobbin makers and pen turners.

Excellent Product!!!! Comes fully sharpened and polished. Cut wood like butter. Leaves soft and hardwoods super smooth very little if any sanding needed.

Oh, I like this tool. For those of us who are skew-challenged, this works very well. It IS possible to have a catch with this tool (which may say more about me than the tool...) but much less frequently, and it does produce a nice finish.

For me, I can use the skew pretty well from right to left (I'm right-handed) but often catch from left to right. Now I just switch to the Spindlemaster when going to the right. It also tends to make coves easily and with a nice finish, in either direction, and can even be used as a finish scraper for those coves.

The tool came nicely sharpened. My only concern is that eventually (probably not for a LONG time), sharpening by honing the flat side will reduce the thickness of the tool.

I purchased this for turning pens and bottle stoppers after getting frustrated with my skew. I love it and wish I had purchased one sooner.

As a new turner with and older Delta lathe, this tool takes the worry out of using a skew. The Spindlemaster is up to the high quality expected of Sorby.

What a great tool..I am a beginner with a new Jet lathe and of course had to buy all the tools. I purchased this as a suggestion from a book on begining turning. WOW....Its the best tool of all that I use. It holds it's sharpness, does smooth cuts, and to me it does everything and does it great. Buy it.

The tool is probably great, I have no doubt, but I like my skew better for working on pens right now. Maybe I just need to learn how to use it. I'm sorry I can't give it a big heads-up.

Have you ever made your final cuts on a spindle turning using a well sharpend skew only to have the skew dig in and ruin your nearly finished turning? I have many times. Well this tool is the answer.
I know many have the same experience. I purchased the mini version of this tool a few months ago and loved it. I have purchased my second one with the longer handle to give me even more control. It works wonderfully for making beads and coves and leaves the wood so smooth that sanding time is practically nil. This tool gives as good a cut as I could ever hope to get with a skew and provides a much less frustrating turning experience.

Great Tool !!! As a new turner, I have found myself to be 'skew challenged'. The spindle master has made all the difference. Works great with wood as well as the acetates for pen turning. I am able to produce a very nice finish without any 'catches' that occur with a skew. Highly recommend this tool.
