Choose the right screws for the wood your using. These screws, with their square drive washer heads, ensures that the screw will seat in the bottom of the pocket hole every time. Sold in packs of 100 or new 1,000 packs.

Washer head seats screw, preventing a crushed pocket & run through. 
For hardwoods, choose the fine thread. For softwoods and particleboard, the coarse thread gives you the driving and holding you need, with a self-tapping wood auger tip. The square drive washer head properly seats the screw in the bottom of the pocket hole, preventing the head from crushing the pocket in softer woods and particle board. The auger points provide for easy installation and minimal splitting. The dri-lube finish reduces friction for easy installation and protects from rust. You just need a standard pocket hole step drill for both #7 and #8 screws. Optional

I used these screws to fasten steam bent oak on a countertop edge. They really sucked it in tight. The head size is not given for #8 screws but a 3/8" counterbore was just right.

Good screws. Although they are sold as self-drilling, they still cause splitting in hickory. Pilot drilling for the screw tip was an additional step necessary.

The hardwood floor that was installed in our "New Construction" home was squeaking very loudly because the installer did not set the staples at the correct angle, reducing the holding power & allowing the floor to float up from the floor. The 1 1/4" Washer head screw was just the right length to install from below, through the 3/4" sub floor and into the 5/8" engineered hardwood laminate without coming through the hardwood top surface.
