I've been using the coarse "stone" for about 6 months with great results. I sharpen both whittling knives and gouges for the students I teach. As with anything well-used, the "stone" was not as coarse as once was, so I bought another one of the same grit. The the first time I used the new one, the same oil seemed to spread out into the card and stick to the surface. The second time I used it, the surface became smooth in the area where I was filing. Needless to say, I went back to using the first diamond "stone."

This tool is a life-saver! Like the ad says, it fits right in your pocket! It worked best for me to buy both the coarse and fine plates. I use it for anything from carving knives to the everyday pocketknife. I recommend this product to everyone because it is a time and money saver.
