I gave it 5 stars in relation to what I spent on this unit. I work in a $30000 spray booth. This little gun spits product like a bandit! I know for the pure of heart it is not, but I am telling you for the price this gun is money well spent. I have sprayed 4 dining room tables and two cocktail tables and a host of miscellaneous projects. I love this unit. I used it with all kinds of product including brush on lacquer! Again keep the price in mind!

I just purchased this unit a couple of weeks ago to finish cabinets I made for my son's home. It is an excellent value, gives you a professional finish and is super easy to clean up. The one knock it has are the included instructions. They are very basic and leave alot to chance for a novice. There is however a significant amount of info regarding HVLP equipment and and it use on the net.

OK!! I feel bad giving this a 1 star because while the unit was working(approx 20 minutes),it sprayed a excellent coat of paint -- turned unit off to realign painted parts -- went to paint again and motor was fried -- I could smell motor -- will exchange unit for another -- hope second one works better

I bought this a few months ago and finally used it this past weekend. I sprayed Sherwin-Williams Pre-Cat Lacquer over an aniline-dyed beech table and chair set for my son. Per the instructions, I thinned 2:1 with lacquer thinner and used the smaller 0.9mm tip. The material went on nicely and I didn't have to make any adjustments to my set-up from my test piece to the real thing.
There is some amount of eye-work required as you have to make sure you're putting enough material for it to "flow", but not too much that it runs. Good lighting helps a bunch. Applying one coat of lacquer took about 20 minutes for the whole project (2'x3' table and 2 small chairs) and it dried in 30min - 1 hour. A light sanding after the first coat was all it took to get a nice smooth finish.
I would recommend this for an inexpensive unit to get into spraying.

I just starting out in more serious woodworking. This sprayer does a great job with water based urethane. Easy fast cleanup. Very load though

Going on 3 mths of owning the sprayer, and so far used it on a dozen or more projects. I really hate finishing projects, getting a sprayer was very intimating for me. I decided to get this one based on the reviews and the price, thinking I would upgrade later on to a better more expensive sprayer. Usually the rule of thumb with power tools is you get what you pay for. Well with this product I got more then I payed for. With care I can see this unit lasting a long time..and at the price..well..for once..I feel like I scored. Yeh the instructions were minimal. But common sense makes up the rest. Nothing to it. Its cut down on my finishing times by days, couldn't be happier with a product

I borrowed this from a friend to stain a shadow box fence. My first time using a sprayer. I was concerned about having to spend too much time tweaking the flow to get an even coat. No worries straight for the can and just turn the knob until it sprayed evenly. My other concern was clean-up and it was a breeze. I just ordered my own.
