Extruded Hinge IllustrationExtruded Solid Brass Hinges are machined to exact specifications, giving you a high-quality hinge that provides strength and performance. The pin hole and knuckle interfaces are drilled and milled, enabling firm yet smooth leaf movement and minimal wear between knuckles. Leaf thickness is a generous 1/16'' thick. One pair per pack, screws included.
Formed Solid Brass HingeFormed Solid Brass Hinges are made using stamped materials, and the knuckles are formed after the stamping process. They are generally less expensive than extruded hinges, and the leaf thickness is less than half that of an extruded hinge. One pair per pack, screws included.

I found these to be strong, well-made and well finished hinges. I had no difficulty installing the supplied screws in mahogany without breaking or burring the heads. I did drill pilot holes, of course.

Well worth the added cost. Excellent quality hinge for the price.

I would agree that the screws are a problem however pre drilling with 2 different size drill bits is necessary. Only drill in a small distance with a bigger diameter bit prevents the screws from breaking.

Installed these hinges on a blanket chest. They look and feel good. Screws definitely could be better, but worked fine without stripping/breaking - just drilled pilot holes, waxed the threads, and screwed in by hand. Didn't even have to tap the threads first with a steel screw. just be careful with them and they'll work out ok.

I have purchased dozens of these hinges and have always found them to be exactly what was expected - high quality, strong brass hinges -- but I always just throw the screws away, as they are fairly useless and snap or strip with even the least bit of pressure. I buy other screws separately for use with the hinges.

I had been unable to find this particular size hinge in our local area. I am using them (3 pair) to build a Molly Brown table for my wife that had been featured in AWW in 2000. The hinges work perfectly and the antique finish I ordered them in goes extremely well with the solid walnut I used on the table. I am looking forward to the look on my wifes face when I give this to her this Mothers Day as I'm sure she has forgotten all about her request for me to build it for her. Great service and great product.

The quality of the hinge is very good but the poor quality of the screws are a problem since the heads are prone to snap off. I should not need to buy better quality screws as will be necessary.

Editor's note: As always, we must recommend pre-drilling pilot holes and use of a screw lube when installing any hinge screws. Brass is a soft metal and needs these procedures for a proper installation. One needs to take particular care when installing in hardwoods. We cannot emphasize this enough.
