How the Rockler/Insty-Drive System works
Drill the pilot hole with the countersink bits or the self-centering bits, which both have a hex shank to prevent slipping.
Slip on the Rockler exclusive Insty-Driver, which fits over Rockler countersink and self-centering bits. Magnetic tip holds all 1/4" style insert bits and screws.
Drive home the screws. Then slip off the Insty-Driver and do it again. You'll get fast and accurate hardware installation every time!

Rockler Exclusive Insty-Drive System
Rockler and Insty-Bit have teamed up to give you fast and accurate hardware installation every time! Switch from drilling to driving instantly. Just drill the pilot hole, slip on the Rockler Exclusive Insty-Driver and drive home the screws. It's as easy as 1-2-3! Components are engineered to meet the highest standards for use in industrial applications. They bring together the best of Innovation from Rockler and Insty-Bit in a precision, time-saving drill and drive system. Plus, all the Rockler/Insty-Drive bits are precision-ground high speed steel (HSS) that keep a sharp edge longer.

The High Speed Steel (HSS) Advantage
All Rockler/Insty-Drive bits are precision-ground high speed steel (HSS) that resist wear and overheating. High speed steel holds a sharp edge longer even when hot because it maintains temper and hardness. Simply sharpen on a bench grinder.

Rockler Exclusive Insty-Drive System Self-Centering Bits
Ensures accurate hinge and hardware installation every time. The HSS bit provides perfectly centered and straight pilot holes, so that even an amateur can install shift-free hardware that lasts. The drill guide snugly fits in the hinge countersink, ensuring perfectly centered pilot hole.

Unless I am very confused you cannot use the driver with the depth stop collar (not included, comes with the larger kit) installed. Otherwise it seems like a very nice setup. The set with case that was on sale for $19.95 without the driver was a nice compliment.

I like Insty-Drive because you don't have to waste a lot of time changing bits, or you don't need the second drill with the other bit in it. Just pure handy all around I feel.

I tried the Insty-Drive after using Dewalt, Makita, and Ryobi drivers. The Insty drive served me better than the others in three ways: 1)The pilot drill is full-length. The others can't show much drill because if their short shaft. 2)Insty-drive parts snap together snugly and stay put. I was constantly dropping the bits out of the Dewalt, often breaking the pilot drill.
3)Insty-drive leaves a very clean countersink with its three cutters. The others showed a lot of tearout.
This tool didn't get 5 stars from me for two reasons: It is just too long to drive in tight places (I use it mostly for custom installations) and I don't like having to keep up with its separate allen wrench. The other brands have the wrench built-in.

I have used the Insty-Driver system for a couple of years. It is the most effficient system I have seen. I am in a group that does a good bit of woodworking and each of them are impressed with the tool. This last purchase was the fourth one that I have given as a gift. I thought they would be more impressed with their own and they seem to be.

I used the drill twice and was changing the countersink depth and the drill bit snapped in half. I didn't see any warranty on this product. I only purchased it about a month ago.

Editor's note: Our customer support at 800-279-4441 will be able to assist in replacement if you feel the breakage was a result of defect rather than manner of usage.

As a master craftsman, and home builder I have tried many drill and drive systems, none compare to the Insty Drive system.
This tool is very well made and will last for a very long time. I enjoy using this system so much that I have purchased another. It is a time saver. I did notice that sometimes the sleeve needs a little turn to lock on, but overall it is a tool everyone should have. Highly recommended.

Do you know that feeling you get when you buy something and you end up thinking it was one of the worst decisions you've made? Or when you decide it's not bad, but you really could have lived without it and wish you hadn't wasted your money? Well this item falls into the third category: One of the best purchases I've made, I wish I had bought it sooner and now I can't imagine working without it again. It is convenient, quick, well-made and a great idea. It does extend the screw tip further than usual, but you get used to it (unless your drill is low quality and has a lot of runout). I have previously used two drills (one to drill and one to screw) but now it's like I have three drills. I use one drill with this two-in-one product to drill and screw, and I use the second drill for a different size drill bit or whatever else I need for the project. It's a great product, and I highly recommended it.

I used Insty Bit to drill holes in plywood for 2" long screws and found it very inefficient. After one inch, the drill bit flutes get packed tightly with wood dust. The drill is backed to clean the flutes with the tip of a screw. (You can't even blow it off with your breath.) Then you can continue to drill the countersink and clean it again before starting the next hole.
I thought the bit could be dull, so I sharpened it in the Drill Doctor, but it made no difference. The good thing about Insty Bit is the countersink cutters do not jamb up with dust.
I was so frustrated cleaning the flutes twice per hole that I went back to my old combo countersink bits where the countersink cutters eventually jamb up with dust, but at least I can drill a hole without stopping.

I've used other products and have thrown most of them in the garbage. I used a friends when building my gates and had to have one. I always would use two drills, not anymore. Perfect engineering!

What a time saver! I ordered this set and the self-centering bit set because I really wanted the self-centering bits for a project. I thought two drills, one for drilling and one for driving, was the ultimate. Wrong!! The Insty-Drive is faster than a speeding bullet. You could never get me to give it up and I've only used it to install a couple of drawer slides. Five stars!

I liked them, but they weren't as perfect as I had assumed. I had difficulty getting the driver over some of the drill bits. It wasn't a smooth push on-pull off. It also extends quite a distance from the chuck, so if you have any runout (as two of my drills have) it makes it worse. This last isn't a failing of the driver, but it doesn't help it and as runout is more common then people assume you might want to consider that when doing fine woodwork.

I worked on an eagle project where we were building a fence. I was predrilling holes, removing the bit, inserting the driver and installing the screws. That's how I've always done it in the past. Another day showed up with this Rockler/Insty-Drive and I was amazed. I searched all the stores looking for it and couldn't find it. I found a lot that did basically the same function but all had their little quirks.. example.. The driver bit got installed in the drill first and the drill bit was part of the cap piece.. When you removed the cap with drill attached where do you put it since your dealing with a sharp drill bit. Even when storing the drill bit is exposed.. The Rockler has the sharp drill bit installed in the drill and the not so sharp driver bit is installed in the cap.. Doesn't sound like a huge difference until you think about it.. I had to contact my friend who was able to provide a link to Rockler's site.

Since you can't use the driver with a stop collar in place countersunk holes are of varying depth. Disappointing.

As a loyal Rockler customer, it hurts me to give this review. But I'm not at all happy with the durability or the overall quality of this. Right out of the box, the countersink broke on its first use. The blades on the "head" of the countersink broke upon contact with the wood I was drilling, which caused the entire piece to break, including the drill bit.
I'm a professional woodworker, and use hand and power tools every day. This ranks among the worst I've used.
Fortunately I was only working on a jig router sled. If this had been a custom table top, it would have been ruined, because the shredded metal of the countersink are still embedded in the wood.
Since other reviews are mostly positive, I suspect this may have simply been a "one off" failure in the metal. At least I hope so.

Editor's note: Our customer service team at 800-376-7856 will be available to assist.
