This Pen Turning Mandrel system includes a #2 morse taper arbor for use with #2 morse taper lathe, mandrel shaft and knurled nut. #1 morse taper arbor attaches
to mandrel (#23552) for use with #1
morse taper lathe. 7mm mandrel for use with fountain and rollerball pen
bushings. Bushing sets sold separately. |

I just turned my first cigar pens. I had some trouble finding the 10mm drill bit, for a while it seemed as if no one had it in stock.
I have turned quite a few slimline pens and pencils. After having turned the cigar pens, I doubt I'll go back. First, the larger diameter really shows off the wood grain. Second, the larger diameter reduces the risk of the wood catching and ripping off the brass tube, so the success rate is greater. Finally, the end result is a much richer-feeling pen.

Solid components and great craftsmanship. Writes smoothly. Instructions are detailed and easy to follow. I'll definitely be making more of these. Sure wish I could find the copper online.

Just tried one of the new Copper hardware kits - NICE! One word to the wise: be very careful when trimming the blanks with the pen mill. If you make too many brass shavings, the two barrels won't fit all the way together! If this happens, don't freak out, just turn a "spacer ring" to fill the gap. And then try to avoid pointing out your mistake when friends and family marvel at your new, beautiful pen!

Excellent craftmanship makes this kit a joy for beginners and experienced craftsman. Smooth action, good balance and a nice weighty feel, make this pen a user, not a display model.

The short tube in the kit was too short. I have a gap that I need to buy a 10mm Tube to cut down and make a wood filler. I have another kit just like it that I will have to substitute a new tube for the old. Very frustrating. This was a fun piece of wood.
