Great router. Quality plunge base and fixed base. I recommend getting the speed lift handle if using the fixed base in a router table. It's quieter than my 1 3/4 PC router.

This router overheats. After running a dadoe bit through light cuts (about 20 minutes run time), the bit, collet, and motor were almost hot enough to fry an egg. I did an internet search about this and found numerous similar complaints. Some solutions that Porter Cable customer service suggested to these owners was to try a new collet. That did not seem to improve the problem.
Anyways, I can't complain about Rockler. They took the Porter Cable router back and exchanged it for a Bosch. I love the new Bosch router. It has all of the same features as the PC and it doesn't overheat.

This router is junk, I would reconmend you buy a different router, This router didn't hold up for me,and I only used it once in a while. I bought mine about a 1 1/2 years ago and the armature and speed control are both shot and would cost more to fix than a new one.Do some more research seams like all these 890 series routers are all doing the same thing.

I bought this router package about a year and a half ago. It is a good value for someone (like me) who thinks they can only afford one router. There are some trade-offs to take into account. First, while the ability to switch from plunge to fixed base is nice, be aware that the case of the router can get full of sawdust when used under the table and make it VERY difficult to remove. Secondly be aware that you have to buy two DIFFERENT accessories to use vacuum on the fixed base and plunge bases, which adds to the cost. The plunge base on my unit is quite sticky going down, but doesn't stay there...vibration will back it out when in a router table. Screws have vibrated out of it. I still like the router and the concept of being able to adjust bit height (although it isn't accurate) from above the table, but if I hade to do it again, I would have bought TWO purpose built routers. One plunge and one fixed base.

I don't know what all the negative reviews are about. Possibly someone got a "lemon". I have had this router for about a year and it has performed extremely well. The ease of switching from plunge to fixed base is quite easy. You can purchase other accessories for it but that is true of virtually any power tool you purchase. I had been using a Craftsman 1 1/2 HP router and still do in my router table. I haven't tried this one in my table yet. I would say if you have/had a problem with this router, call PC their customer service seems to be pretty good from my experience.

This is the first router I have ever owned. I like the easy of changing bases and depths. I also like the double on off switch. But on the motor that I have the switch already had some issues with moving on and off. The shaft lock pin also does not function fully like it should and I have to tap it with a hammer to free it up so it moves into place. Other than that I have nothing bad to say about it. The speed control is nice and easy to use. The soft start and full speed operation is smooth! I wanted to use the plunge base for my router table that I am building but it just does not have the clearance. So at this point I am working with the fixed base and so far so good. The handles do come off with ease which is nice. Overall at this point I give it a 7/10. Owned it only for two weeks now If I would not have had issues with the switch I would give it a 8 or 9/10

I purchased this router about a year ago. It has been in a router table right from the start. I do like the router but did have a problem right from the start, the cast aluminum clamp that is used to tighten the motor in the base wallowed out right away and I could not get replacement part for it. They have been on back order now for over six months. The biggest problem that I have had with the router is that when it is mounted under the router table, the dust created when routing gets between the base and the motor making the it almost impossible to make adustments up and down and/or getting the motor out of the base to clean the dust out. I remedied this problem by purchasing a hight quality lift from Incra Tools, the rounter with this lift is a dream to use now and I am very happy with it. No complaints about the motor or any issues other the parts availabilty and the dust getting into the base.
