The NEW 890 series is loaded with great features to give you an easier-to-use, more powerful router. Ideal for all router table applications. This package includes 2-1/4 HP motor, fixed base, plunge base and carrying case.

2-1/4 HP, 12 amp soft-start motor
Soft-starting, Variable speed from 10,000-24,000 RPM with advanced electronic feedback to maintain constant cutter speed under load
Low noise vibration
Above-table bit height adjustment, motor release, collet and bit access, and spindle lock for single wrench bit changes
Dual switch locations ensure access from handle gripping, palm gripping and router table mounted positions while preventing accidental start-up when the spindle lock is engaged.
Large opening, see-through sub-base with quick-change release for tool-less changeover between router bases and router tables
Multi-function carrying case with bit and accessory storage. Detaches into a pedestal to place the router between cuts.
Ergonomicaly correct handles with soft, rubberized grip are located close to work surface for maximum control.

Thumb Rotating Turret
Four-position stop rotates to desired depth setting while maintaining a firm grip on the handles. Reduces time and set-up by allowing for pre-set depth changes while the motor is operational.

Dust Sealed Switch
Dust-sealed switch extends above router top in the ON position for easy OFF access. Top switch is easily accessible during single hand gripping operation.

Motor Catch
Special rack design prevents motor from disengaging from the base during micro-height adjustments in a router table. Secondary, Macro-Release lever allows for motor removal.

Micro-Adjustable Stop
Tool-free rotating stop adjusts in small 1/32 inch increments for precise micro-depth adjustments. One full turn = 1/8 inch.

Adjustable Depth Scale
Pre-set plunge depth by lowering the router bit to the work surface and locking. Lower stop rod to the surface of the micro-adjustable stop on the base. Adjust scale marker to zero depth setting. Raise stop rod until the scale marker reads the desired depth setting. Lock stop rod and the router will now plunge to the desired setting.

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES :

GripVac D-Handle Base GripVac Handle
For single hand gripping operation. Features a soft over-mold surface that molds to the operators hand for maximum comfort and control. This grip method is often preferred when using the router on dovetail machines with repetitive front-to-back movements.

For maximum dust control and additional hand gripping versatililty, the standard base handle is replaceable with the GripVac handle (#26820). The GripVac attachment mounts over the dust access hole.

The GripVac attachment minimizes vacumn hose interference by efficiently exhausting the dust through the top of the handle. Must be used with the clear dust insert included with the base. Dust insert mounts inside the base by removing the sub-base and attraching between the base casting and plastic sub-base.

Micro-height adjustment knob
Fits all 890 series routers and the 8529 router.

Rotate counterclockwise to raise the bit height (One full turn = 1/8 inch) Rotate clockwise to lower the bit.

This router overheats. After running a dadoe bit through light cuts (about 20 minutes run time), the bit, collet, and motor were almost hot enough to fry an egg. I did an internet search about this and found numerous similar complaints. Some solutions that Porter Cable customer service suggested to these owners was to try a new collet. That did not seem to improve the problem.

Anyways, I can't complain about Rockler. They took the Porter Cable router back and exchanged it for a Bosch. I love the new Bosch router. It has all of the same features as the PC and it doesn't overheat.

Great router. Quality plunge base and fixed base. I recommend getting the speed lift handle if using the fixed base in a router table. It's quieter than my 1 3/4 PC router.

This router is junk, I would reconmend you buy a different router, This router didn't hold up for me,and I only used it once in a while. I bought mine about a 1 1/2 years ago and the armature and speed control are both shot and would cost more to fix than a new one.Do some more research seams like all these 890 series routers are all doing the same thing.

I bought this router package about a year and a half ago. It is a good value for someone (like me) who thinks they can only afford one router. There are some trade-offs to take into account. First, while the ability to switch from plunge to fixed base is nice, be aware that the case of the router can get full of sawdust when used under the table and make it VERY difficult to remove. Secondly be aware that you have to buy two DIFFERENT accessories to use vacuum on the fixed base and plunge bases, which adds to the cost. The plunge base on my unit is quite sticky going down, but doesn't stay there...vibration will back it out when in a router table. Screws have vibrated out of it. I still like the router and the concept of being able to adjust bit height (although it isn't accurate) from above the table, but if I hade to do it again, I would have bought TWO purpose built routers. One plunge and one fixed base.

One thing to be wary of is how many accessories are available for this router. It can be difficult to find and purchase bases and bushings/templates. Don't make the mistake I made in purchasing a router before learning none of my accessories fit it.
