As a hobby furniture builder, I've always used more conventional methods e.g. biscuts, dowels, etc. to join pieces. However, a contractor friend raved about the Kreg system and thought I'd give it a try. The basic jig worked well, but learned quickly that the additon of this hold down device was a valued addition.
The first project was a oomplete set of custom office furniture file cradenza, desk, corner cabinet, book cases, etc. in cherry for my daughter. All the joints were done with the Kreg system. WOW ... sure made the project simplier and faster. With a little attention to cutting, everything assembled square and flush. Although I thought of dove tailing the drawers, the Kreg pocket screw system was used instead and the results are wonderful.

Simple improvement nice extra, sometimes it all about the little things the Kreg HD Bench Clamp system is really ready to use out of the box, thanks to someones suggestion to add some self stick rubber feet to the plate. Keeps the plate level while providing space underneath for the clamp key. This is beefy use it portable or dropped in the bench, but my guess is you will never add the corner screws to secure it to the bench, cause it's extra weight make it stable where ever you decide to use it.

Have used the older hold down clamp with the smaller 3x4 plate mounted in a workbench, and loved it. But now have been setting up a new shop of my own rather than shared and really like the big plate. I use it set into a work bench, but also pull it out and move it around. It has enough weight and is so solid it is very useful in on other benches or on anywhere I need to work. It won't set flat because of the keyhole, but is closer than the regular face clamp.

I had seen and used the clamp system at a relative's shop so I new knew how it worked prior to receipt. Nevertheless, I was surprised at the weight of the package when it was delivered. The bench plate is heavy-duty and the clamp is well made. The adjustment crank on the handle is a nice improvement over the standard vice-grip knurled knob on the Kreg kit-clamp. Flush installation is a little fiddly but I had bench-top recess cut in about an hour (didn't use the recommended pocket hole assembled routing jig. But I did make a similar jig from scrap).
This is a multi-use tool. It works well for aligning pocket joints - that is it's primary purpose. However, I suspect it will get more use as a general purpose hold-down clamp. After I get accustomed to using it I might purchase a couple more of the smaller plates for installation at other locations on the bench or in the shop.
Good tool and I would recommend it to anyone who has the Kreg system; and even others just looking for a good bench hold-down solution.

Bought clamp for new assembly bench. While coating the bench top with a coat of wax, I noticed a black substance from the clamp base smearing around. Tried to clean it with solvent, but nothing helped. Is the liquid Turtle wax reacting with the steel plate? Very strange!

Just what I needed. I was about to build a window seat system, with 2 book cases and a window seat. I was going to use the Kreg pocket hole system to build everything, but the only thing I did not own was the Heavy Duty Bench Klamp. The bench klamp made it so much easier. It was the best investment I ever made. Actually The whole Kreg Pocket Hole System was the best investment I ever made. For those of you who never used the Kreg System, you would be supprised at all you could build.
