Expert advice from start to finish

When you build your own cabinets you’re not just saving money. You also can improve upon the materials and construction used in factory-made cabinets, and get exactly the sizes you want. And with the techniques that Udo Schimdt demonstrates and explains, you can incorporate custom details in your cabinets to make them even more distinctive. Arched doors, custom cornice treatments, oversize pantry cabinets, and solid wood end panels are just a few of the options to consider.

I was quite impressed with the amount of information in this book. I did notice a photo caption that was incorrect at the start of the book (wrong photo with caption)and that made me more attentive. The book did put me at ease because I was not told to go out and purchase expensive tools that were not already in my small shop, but it did help me to locate some things I was trying to find. I saved at least $1000 by not purchasing pre-made genuine imitation wood cabinets, and even more because my kitchen can't accept "standard" sized ones. Great book to keep handy for almost any project!

The book is packed with valuable information, techniques, and tips. The illistrations are very detailed and helpful. The book is well edited and easy to find exactly what you are looking for. I found that the author offers different techniques for each application and goes into details about the different techniques in constructing cabninets and doors. The author gives tips, advise, and methods on speciality cabinets and hardware as well, giving you the home builder some very good and creative ideas for not only your kitchen but anywhere cabinet storage is needed. In my opion this is a valuable addition to anyone's library, from the novice to the skilled master.

Sorry I was not impressed by the material in this text. After years of watching my dad design and build kitchen cabinets I felt like there were a lot of key missing instructions. Very basic and not for the novice builder who wants to give it a shot. I will however try to find 1 or 2 tips I can hopefully use but overall I might have to get it done without the book.

Lots of helpfull tips and idea's, however this book could use more photos and/or diagrams. This book, unlike its title is bunch of tips and ideas. It is not a "Guide" showing how to build cabinets. I will be picking up a different book to see if I can get some more info before I tackle my cabinets.

Excellent Book!
Perfect for the home or one-man shop. It's my bible for our whole-house cabinetry job. The author details modern methods for face-frame cabinets and frame-and-panel doors. Packed with real-world info for dimensions and techniques. To use Udo's methods to the fullest, you'll need capabilities for pocket screws, biscuit joining, cope/stick and panel routing and dovetailing. He does show alternatives if you lack any of these.
