It does what it says. If you ever use recycled lumber you need one. If I had one of these sooner, I would have already paid for it in saved jointer & planer blades.

I was recently given some old timbers from a building that was torn down. After I watched my friend ruin a bandsaw blade on a nail that he had missed I thought I ahd better invest in one. The Wizard III worked great and saved the day by locating multiple hidden/buried nails that would have ruined my blade during resaw.

We work in an old mill and recently were asked to turn some old timbers and replaced flooring/roofing boards into "recycled" furniture products. Knowing it was full of who knows what we purchased the Lumber Wizard to scan the wood for debris. I'm glad we did for we found numerous nails and even some broken lag bolts that would surely have ruined any blade it came in contact with. We spend good $$ on quality blades, the LWIII is their insurance policy.

So far so good. I've only used it a few times, but it found a couple non-ferrous nails that had stuck to my boards. Take the time to read the directions so you get it calibrated properly each time.

I have no doubt this will save me some planer and band saw blades. I have been working with oak, walnut, and sour wood cut from yards and farms lately and have lost some blades to hidden nails. I have tested it on a 1/2" 18ga brad through 1/2" sour wood and it locates it everytime.

I had recently acquired some recycled lumber and tried to use a little metal detector I bought last year. It didn't work at all. A waste of money. So, I decided to buy this one. This metal detector works great! I had laid out a curve on some recycled wood (4x4x20) I wanted to cut on my band saw, but didnt' do it until I got the Lumber Wizard. Good thing I didn't because I found a nail embeded deep in the wood. That would have ruined my new blade. I am half way to recouping my cost of this device already. I tested it on all the recycled lumber I got and found half a dozen little and big nails embeded and out of sight in that wood. I'm happy now.

The metal detector is very sensitive and does a good job.
"I have been buying your products for several years now. When I need supplies or parts for my woodshop I always go to your catalog. I receive other woodworking catalogs, but I always order from Rockler. The products are great and I have never been disapointed in the products. I purshased the table saw miter sled when it first came out. It has saved me time, money, materials. It is great.
