I received this in the middle of cutting 160 mortises in claro walnut for a crib. After about 75 mortises the work was definitely slowing down. Using the handle and a vise I was able to hone the inside of the chisels to a good polish. I finished the outside with a very fine diamond hone and went back to work. What a difference. the mortise chisel cut almost as well as when it was new. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to maintain pace in cutting a lot of mortises.

This is the first time I have tried a conical hone so I wasn't sure what to expect and was even skeptical after reading reviews elsewhere but those fears were unfounded.
I secured the chisels in my vise and used the handle for the course cone, one that was done I put the fine cone in my cordless drill and honed it using a low speed. The hones worked wonderfully! My mortising chisels cut much smoother and my mortises come out much cleaner.
I highly recommend this product, they only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't have anything else to compare it to so they may deserve be 5 stars. You won't regret buying this set.

I chose to use the handle the first time I used the sharpener. It might be a good idea as one other person mentioned below to put the sharpeners in a drill press chuck and the bit in a clamp for stability. I can see you applying too much pressure to one side or the other causing the bit to be uneven.

Hones quickly and well. Like others I find it easier to keep centered with a cordless drill at a very slow speed. The only thing better is a $120.00 sharpening system! But if my chisels need that, I'll buy another.
The handle, BTW, accepts most snap-in bits.

Sharpened my new mortise bits, worked great. Instead of hand turning the cone sharpeners, I chucked it in my variable speeb drill n slowly honed the inside edges(had mortise chisel locked in a vise). Used waterstone to hone outside burr off. Worked great. A good investment.

Worked very well on smaller sized chisel's made the cheap bits cut like high dollar bits. Wish it was big enough for 5/8 bit and had files for drill bits, that would make it perfect.

Customer Rating:
The two cones were well shaped and worked quickly on my chisel bits. However, I did not think the handle was really neccessary, and I was surprised that there was no tool, or documentation, for sharpening the drill bits. After all, a mortise chisel set is composed of two different cutting devices. This set only sharpens one of them.

Easy to use with the chisel mounted vertically in a vice. Couple minutes to resharpen a chisel. Results can be felt on the first plunge. Excellent tool.

This turned my mortiser into a whole new machine. Out of the box, my bits would not cut Maple without a lot of effort. Now they cut like a hot knife through butter. Great price for a miracle tool.

Well made, simple, easy to use. With several hundred mortises to make in cherry, walnut and maple this easy to use accessory is making a great difference in the operating performance and efficiency of my mortiser. Thanks Rockler. C. Alan Robertson-Red Whale Woodworks

I was actually doubtful at first, but this set took my Mortise Chisels from sharp to razor sharp. They now cut White Oak like butter (well, almost!)

I have been building the 3-n-1 crib from the plans that I bought from Rockler. There were 52 mortises that were required for the slats. After using chisel sharpener they were a breeze.

The cone angle was incorrect for my chisels. It would only sharpen the tips and not the full cutting edge of the chiseel. Returned for credit.

Wrong cone angle. I have a Craftsman table-top mortiser whose chisels are set at a 50 degree cone 25 degree half-angle. These two sharpening cones are at a larger angle.

WOW! My daughter gave me the 3-piece Mortise Chisel Sharpening Set for Father's Day. I used it to sharpen a very dull Jet 1/2" chisel, and what a difference it made. I knocked out 24 2-inch mortises in 2 1/4" thick Oak stock in under an hour. It seems to me that this chisel is sharper now than it was brand new!
