Quality skew chisels made by Hamlet Craft Tools of England!
  • Small skew chisel is 5/8" wide with 14" handle.
  • Large skew chisel is 1-3/8" wide and has a 16" handle.
  • Short point side is rolled completely for improve ease in planing spindle stock and for rolling beads.
  • Long point side is kept flat, but with softened corners - an advantage in making such cuts as the V, shoulder, parting off, or pommels.

Wonderful skew. Heavy metal is a joy to turn with. The curved grind gives may more options for using the skew. The 5/8" is a great addition to the larger 1-3/8" skew. Highly recommend.

Having had difficulty manipulating the skew, I was fortunate enough to come by Mike Dunbars books and DVD's. His DVD's on the skew are truly superb. Fully informative on every aspect of using the skew to it's utmost capability and then some. Now the skew is my favorite go to chisel of all of my turning tools. The confidence that Dunbar instills in your handling of the skew is extremely reassuring. I viewed Alan Lacer's DVD's on the skew and picked up quite a few tips on the skew. The curved skew has it's applications and really makes many tasks feel like you're cutting through butter. The very weight of the tools, both large and small make handling the skews quite predictable and gratifying. They are of the few that are made from 3/8" thick stock compared to 1/4" thick and less by most on the market. I strongly recommend both of them and at the current price they are quite a bargain. One thing I can't stress strongly enough ala Dunbar is to always keep your tools sharp. Keep a fine grit diamond credit card honer in your pocket and constantly touch your skews, gouges and what have you up. Get some of these great videos and you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish with ease and total confidence. Enjoy, I sure am, just finished turning down 73 spindles, 8 post finials and four main posts for mama's new porch railing. With that Lacer skew and Dunbars savvy it was a breeze.

This has to be one of the nicest turning tools you can own. Well made and great to use. Is is heavy steel, and a pleasure to use. The videos the Mr. Lacer has produced goes so much more in how to use the skew. No doubt one of my most used tools in my shop!
