The Veneer Smoothing Blade features a beveled Plexiglas blade that never scratches. The 9'' handle is constructed of unfinished northern hard maple and the handle butt is beveled for pressing veneer edging. The Veneer Smoothing Blade is a great economical alternative to a veneer hammer.

I found this tool very useful for apply the pressure sensitive veneer sheets. I wrote "top side" on the handle to avoid dragging the pointed edge on the veneer surface.

Used the tool on 24 SF maple veneer. Tool blade gouged to such a point that I cannot use it. I guess that I will need to buy more of them. Wished that only the blade was available. Do not need the handle.

I purchased one of these. The plastic is too soft, allowing the wood grain to gouge the plastic, leaving tracks in the plastic face. Also, do not press too hard, as with other tools, because this will definitely break the plastic. Used the tool on one project - a small coffee table, and it broke before I could finish scraping down the veneer. If it happens to you, simply attach a blade from a plane to a set of vice grips, be careful sharp edge doesn't cut veneer, and "press on".

Editor's note: The plastic blade on these is soft to avoid marring the veneer. Using a hard steel edge is not recommended for the purpose of applying veneer as it can mar or tear the veneer. To clarify, smoothing blades are used to smooth the veneer surface down when applying it and are not used for scraping.
