This joiner is easy to set up, easy to use, and the best part - easy to change cutting blades. Being able to change from 2" to 4" blades is of great value to me.

Having research biscuit cutters I was leaning toward the high end units for the accuracy and operation, but after reading the reviews both here and at other web sites and given the cost it was difficult to pass up. I can say that it certainly lives up to the earlier reviews and did I mention the price was right?

I did a fair amount of research on comparable models before I purchased my biscuit joiner. I am so glad I did. The PC model #557 was awesome right out of the box. I was 90% complete with a side table I was making out of cherry. Last step was to join the 4 pieces for the table top and 3 for a lower shelf. I rushed home, opened the box and was making cuts within minutes. It was very intuitive, easy to adjust and cut very clean recesses. All of the movable parts locked tightly into place for great repeat cuts. I found that the dust bag filled up fairly quick, but I'm not sure a bigger bag is the answer (I probably cut too fast).
I have found a ton of uses for it and sometimes even look for excuses to use it to reinforce already-ample joints. Definitely worth the money and has yet to show any major signs of wear. Nice job Porter-Cable. Nice job.

I have been using a biscuit joiner attached to my router for twenty years and decided to try a self contained biscuit joiner. I have other Porter Cable tools and have been very happy with the way they stand behind their products so I purchased the 557. I should have purchased one years ago. It is so easy to use and the line up marks are perfect for close work. I highly recommend this model for wood workers.

I bought this to replace a entry-level Ridgid biscuit cutter, partly because the dust port on the Ridgid constantly clogged (plus it occasionally slipped and was imprecise in set up). The Porter-Cable is a much better machine, easy to set-up and cuts great biscuits, but the clogging issue is only slightly better. Can't understand why they can't make the dust port a bit bigger so it doesn't clog.

Aside from the dust shoot which constantly clogs, this is a beautiful machine. However, when something as basic as dust collection doesn't work, the rest of the tool is worthless, in my book. What a nuisance! Wish I'd bought a different one.

Recently purchase this from Rockler for a great deal. After much research I chose the 557. So far this thing is great, easy to set up, easy to use. The dust port stinks. Try to use the bag and it clogs up after a couple of cuts. It has a 1" port and I have yet to find an adapter for my 1.25" vac hose.
