Nice product. Strong magnets held the doors well without being too strong for the small chest.

The Magnetic catch worked well. I used a 7/16 bit and set four catches into red oak. I used a clamp to press the catch into the hole. I used a dowel center point to locate the postion of the keeper. The 7/16 size catch is considerably stronger than the 3/16 catches which I have used for previous projects.

A 7/16 hole for the barrel of this catch will not work in hardwoods. I had to go clear up to a 15/32 hole and add a bit of glue for the proper fit. Even a 29/64 hole was too small. This could have been manufactured to match a proper hole size, but wasn't. I mounted it in a bumper inside the cabinet door opening so I had to counterbore in the door for the keeper because it is a fully inset door.
One other tip: Mount the barrel first, then take a #4 woodscrew and trim it off short and grind a point on the end. Place this screw in the mounting hole of the keeper, set the keeper on the magnet end then press the door against it. This will give you the exact point to drill your pilot hole for the keeper mounting screw/center of counterbore for the keeper.
"My new favourite store!
I just finshed my very first woodworking project (A workbench of course...couldn't do much without it!) and I can honestly say I did it mistake-free because of the advice from Charlie at the Rockler Store on S.Lyndale Ave. in Minneapolis.
He sold me what I needed, not what I thought I needed. (which would have been about twice as much!) He was very patient with all my questions, and gave me great advice on how to do things.
These folks are knowledgable and extremely helpful.
