I recently (Mar. 27, 2009) retired and built myself a hobby shop. I equipped the shop with a new table saw, planer, drill press, new router table, compound miter-saw, cabinet makers work bench, dust collector, and a small wood lathe. A metal lathe and small mill will be my next additions. My third non-repair project was the mailbox bank truck that uses the mailbox door sold by Rockler. I downloaded the plan many months ago and finally purchased the mailbox door this past July. I also purchased the wheels and headlights listed below it. In addition I purchased the small steering wheel sold by Rockler. I built the truck per the downloaded plan and used the wheels (see my review of the mailbox door for more details). I experienced none of the problems mentioned by other reviewers. The wheels seemed strong and adequate with no loose spokes or other defects. I would agree though that any toy using these wheels that would be actively played with should probably have the spokes reinforce with additional glue. Otherwise the wheels are of high quality and very well suited to my purposes.

Looks good & machined well. Spokes are merely glued to the surface of a rabbet on the back of the "tire". If using for a kid's toy, I recommend filling the back of the "tire" with wood epoxy to reinforce the attachment of the spokes.

The wooden spoke wheels were used for toy car cut outs
with the 1920's look.
They made the toys look great.

Had to add a little extra glue. I had three come apart, two were dropped and one just squeezed. The spokes are loose in the hub. They will fall out when they come apart.
I guess I should say that I used them for drop spindle whorls for spinning wool into yarn, not model cars that will sit on the shelf. Still I have not had one come apart again after being glued better.

The spokes need to be reinforced. I had to reglue several and added some more glue to all spokes for strength. Otherwise they were machined well. I am bulding a detailed model of a 1931 Ford Woodie.
