An excellent slide with excellent instructions detailing the size and clearance requirements for the drawer. I installed four sets of these in a cabinet with overlay drawers and they are perfect, highly recommended!

I made a solid oak butcher block top island for our kitchen and originally put self-close guides from Rockler on the two drawers, however the drawers "banged" shut so I decided to try these. These are a far superior product and even though they are pricey they are certainly worth it for way they work. They are smooth and quiet. I would highly recommend.

The under mount drawer guides provide a nice, clean appearance to the table, and the smooth action (soft closing) is quiet and sturdy. The installation was a snap, and the adjustability of the guides provided for excellent fine tuning, and this was required for this table as the drawer fronts are nested. Drawer to drawer and drawer to table alignment were critical. The table is for a charity auction to support the Northwest Burn Foundation put on by the Port of Seattle Firefighters. The project turned out so well that I now have to make another one for my wife.

I built a desk and originally installed the self close model of these slides. The action on those slides was fairly harsh and made closing the drawers pretty noisy. These slides are far better, and I am glad I made the switch.

I'm redoing all the drawer boxes in my 30yr. old kitchen. The drawers had that wooden slide with the plastic in the back. I made the drawer boxes from 5/8" curly maple with dovetails front and back (using the Rockler dovetail jig). For extra strength, I installed a strip of wood perpendicular to, and flush with the face frame (so it made it just like a frameless installation.) I screwed the slides into that strip, with screws long enough to go into the old cabinet sides.

Opening and closing the drawer with these wonderful drawer slides takes my breath away!!!

I chose the Accuride Eclipse for the existing drawers (over Blum Blumotion tandem) because they offer a 22" drawer slide. (I'm building some new cabinets, and for them I’m using the Blumotion slides). Both products are sturdy, top notch slides.

Installing your first Eclipse slide is a little intimidating because the directions are not that great. (Go to the Blum website, and their directions are better.) The installation is similar between the Eclipse and Blumotion slides, except that there are very minor dimension differences (e.g. need ¼” each side of box for Eclipse, only 3/16” for Blum). Both require 5/8” clearance behind the slide. Blum offers slides for ¾” sides as well as 5/8”sides. The width of the notch in the back is a little different. (The notch starts at the edge of the 5/8” side and I made them about 1 ¾” long.) Study the directions very carefully or make a scrap drawer for practice.

Once you install your first slide, you know you can do anything, and in fact it was not that hard after all. The critical thing is following the directions exactly on sizing the drawer. I learned a few things as I went along. For example, I cut the notches in the back of the drawer after I did the dovetails, since in assembling the drawer the notch made the last dovetail weak and crack. Also, the Eclipse and the Blumotion slides have little spikes in the back where the 1/8” holes go (3/8” deep). So if you dry fit the drawer box and slam it closed hard it will mark where the holes need to be drilled. I also dry fitted the box and slides in the cabinet to make sure the box was square and even with the front of the cabinet. Then I screwed in the drawer slides, rather than following the manufacturers measurements, which make the box come out a little proud of the cabinet.

You can make the drawer a little longer than the manufacturers recommend, if you have an oddly deep cabinet, but you must put a shim on the underside of the drawer to have the exact spacing that the manufacturers recommend. For example, if your drawer slide is for a 24” drawer and you really want a 24 ¾” drawer, you must install a ¾” by ½” by the width of the drawer shim in the underside front of the drawer, then attach the release handles to it. (The manufacturers don’t tell you this.) Remember also the 5/8” clearance you need behind the drawer slide.

The only disadvantage in these undermount slides that I see is that you lose a little more drawer space at the bottom of the drawer. They require ½” recess at the drawer bottom and then the hardware takes a little more space. They would not be suitable for a very, very shallow drawer. The drawer box needs to be 13/16” less than the height of the cabinet opening, and then I took it down to the next rounded off inch. That way I did not have to make any adjustments on the Rockler Dovetail jig to get the dovetails to come out centered.

These undermount drawer slides are so great, they are worth the extra complexity of installation.

I wish someone had told me all this when I first started.

I built a changing table/dresser for my new daughter, with inset drawers. These went in easy, and the fine adjustment was perfect for inset drawers.
The only drawback of these slides was that I had to order them from website as they no longer carry them in the store.

Product Review for Accuride® Eclipse 3132EC Undermount Slide - Rated 5 Stars

The product has some really nice design features and additional lengths e.g. 22" that Blum does not offer.
However, there are two unresolved issues that forced me back to Knape & Voght or Blum in my particular case.
LOW POINTS
1. MANUFACTURING ISSUE:If your holes in your boxes are cut on a CNC to the hole center specifications given, you will find that the center punched holes in 22" slides do not align themselves properly. They deviate by .04" which is enough to prevent euro screws from engaging the hole. If you hold a straight edge along the punched hole edge, the slides have a crown in the center but the opposite edge does not. I suspect that during the gusset formation operation, the metal is stretching in the center when the die is engaged changing the centerline of the holes in the middle of the rail. This may only affect slides over a certain length and was not limited to a bad batch purchased. Multiples were checked against each other from different mfg. dates and runs.
2. DESIGN ISSUE: Empty cabinets will blow through dampening travel and bang against box face if anymore than light closing force is used. If you look at the photo provided hopefully it gets shownyou will see the internal mechanism and dampener. Why Accuride chose to use such a short dampener is anybodies guess, but it is only about 1/2" long extended as oppossed to Blum's 2 1/4" extended length, and this has a significant impact on the closing action of the door loaded or unloaded.
HIGH POINTS
Adjustability features
More tolerance for poorly fitted boxes
Wider range of lengths
Good product if your not fussy about these kind of things. I could only hope that Accuride will refine the product and get it dialed in a little better. Cabinetmakers often don't voice their concerns very much and so the mfg. never knows about these issues until someone brings it up in the field or they get a lot of returns early in the product launch cycle.
Blum still has a very refined product that's hard to beat.
