I have used the model 25A for over four years now. I will atempt to give a fair rating and review of this shaper. I am a custom cabinetmaker in a one man shop, so here goes.
First the cons:
The door is in the back so if you put it close to a wall it is hard to get into the inner workings.
It only has one starting pin hole located directly in front of the spindle, two or three offset would be nice.
One of the fence adjustment screws that opens and closes the gap for different size cutters was bent and the part number in the owners manual didn't match the part when I tried to get a new one from Powermatic. Also the long bolt that holds the spindle tight worked loose when I reversed the shaper and fell out it got bent , and had to order a new from Powermatic.
Now the pros---It is a solid built machine, with hardly any vibration, and plenty of power. I have produced thousands of cabinet doors and many feet of V-groove paneling and have gotten consistant results over the years. The top is heavy and flat, the spindle is square to the table. The mitre gauge is of poor quality, I would have expected more from Powermatic.
I replaced it with one from Delta with hold downs built into it, it works fairly well. You can expect to get many years service from this machine with moderate to heavy shaping operations. I would recommend this shaper to any one needing good medium sized shaper.
