I purchased one used, It performs beyond my expectations, I have used it to straighten end grain butcher block cutting boards, I only had 150 grit paper and gave it a try, what took hours with a random orbit sander was accomplished in about 1/2 hour. It took some time to dial in [my bought used] sander, the conveyor belt would not track, I removed the belt and turned it end for end, cleaned and lubed, adjusted and it works, even using the open end feature of wider boards in two passes.
I would recommend this product.

I have had this sander for a couple weeks now and have put it through it's paces. It does what it is supposed to do, and that is sand, and it does it well. Having a dimension sander is a real treat. I haven't had the trouble with the conveyor belt, spent a little time when I first got it adjusting, and it seems to be holding well. My complaint would be in changing the sanding papers. The tool they give you to help with this is not easy to place. Then once loaded you have to re-tension the belt after a few runs, as it stretches as it warms up. I wish it were a hook and loop type system. You have to go to finer grits as you would in hand sanding, and it slows you down a lot to have to change the paper. The other area that could be improved on is the dust collection. Sawdust leaks from all the openings, despite being connected to a dust collector. That said, I really do enjoy having this in my shop, and would not steer anyone away from considering purchasing one.

The fit and finish of this machine is quite good. My primary complaint is the User Manual and the manufacturers website; both leave a lot to be desired regarding additional help or product support. The manual is skimpy and the info on changing sand paper is woefully inadequate. I agree that the provided tool to aid in installing the sand paper roll is of very poor design. In fact, the one specific area that does involve using your hands is limited to about an inch and a half of clearance! Changing rolls is a real pain! I would NOT recommend this device.

I am quite pleased with the overall performance of the Jet 10-20 Drum Sander, with the single exception of what appears to be an almost universal complaint. The tracking of the conveyor belt is difficult to keep aligned. I have now completed twelve of The New Yankee Workshop's Adirondack Chairs using the Jet 10-20 Drum Sander. It took the druggery out of sanding the hundreds of individual pieces of Cypress. For the home workshop this is a worthwhile investment.
