Customer Rating:
These chisels are a great everyday value. They are not supposed to be used out of the box, so a wiping with lacquer thinner, flattening, and bevel honing are required. The angle is a great one to start but adding a mini bevel makes for a sharper cut. Good strong steel.

Great value on these. They sharpened up easily enough and hold the edge nicely. however, I'm a little concerned about their overall durability - the handles seem a little fragile, as I'm not sure how far the "tang" protrudes into the plastic handle. Definitely for more delicate work.

When Irwin first started putting their name on these they were still Sheffield made. They have taken the old standard and turned it into junk. This is really upsetting. I am looking to replace my original set of Blue Chips, they have been thoroughly abused for 17 years if you can find an old set of these go for it but I wouldn't waste my money on these.

Out of the box only one was sharp enough to cut, and none were ground square to the edge. After sharpening and squaring they are great. They hold an edge well, the flat sided handles keep them from rolling off the bench, and the handles take a beating without damage. Overall a good investment in daily use chisels.
