Self-closing hinges are an ideal for cabinets. The built-in spring pulls the door closed and holds it in a closed position, eliminating the need for catches.
Soft-closing hinges have an adjustable action that, when your door is pushed closed, automatically takes over and brings your door to a whisper-soft close.
Free-swing hinges are most often used in furniture applications, rather than cabinet applications. |
|
| Use
the chart to determine how many hinges you'll need for the height and weight
of your door.
A door
that is 43'' high and weighs 14 lbs. requires three hinges. If your door
is only 24'' high but weighs 14 lbs., go with three hinges for maximum
support and stability.
Use
on 5/8'' - 3/4'' doors unless otherwise noted. |

Product worked perfectly as described. Small right angel drill used as screwdriver made installation easier.

I've used these hinges on two different cabinet projects so far and like them. I haven't been able to find any others that are totally concealed for a 3/8 lipped door. Just a couple words of caution, make sure to leave at least 5/8 of an inch between the edge of the face frame and cabinet side. The hinge screws to the back of the face frame and needs this amount of room. One last note, I found that its much easier to screw the hinges to the face frame before you fasten the face frame to the cabinet. One other option is to leave the back of the cabinet off until the hinges are installed so you have a litte more working room. Overall the hinges and the motion they produce are very nice and I will use them again.

I recently retrofitted 38 doors in a kitchen. These were the only concealed hinge I could find to do the job. I took the doors to a cabinet shop, and for much less than I would have spent at the house had the doors properly bored. This made the installation straight forward as every door had the exact distance from top and bottom to center of hinge. I simply made a gauge block to use for mounting the bottom hinge plate to the faceframe, snapped the door in place and screwed off the upper hinge plate.
The hinges work well and have plenty of adjustment. I will use them again.

These hinges are the perfect solution to retrofitting older cabinet doors. I recently installed 15 pair in a kitchen and the result was great. A couple of things to consider:
- The mounting plates work well but the installation is rather tedious. I found if you use a self tapping hexhead screw to mount the bracket to the face frame it makes it a million times easier because you don't need to pre drill or fight to keep the phillips head engaged on the provided screws.
- I found that the mounting brackets are made specifically for 3/4" face frames. I had to drill new mounting holes in the bracket to move the base closer to the face of the cabinet because the face frames were 5/4" material.
- finally, just make sure you have a right angle drill or compact drill for these
Overall these are awesome!

Very good product -- found that the bracket that hooks to the cabinet was very hard to install. Getting tools and hands in the small space was very frustrating.

This is a decent hinge and the only 'Euro' type hinge I could locate for a lipped door. Installation was straightforward and I am certainly pleased.

I was looking for a hidden hinge for 3/8" recessed doors. The hinges were installed before the cabinet fronts were attached to the wall. I did several tests before drilling the holes in the cabinet doors. They installed rather easily. Plus they have 4 degrees of adjustment to align the doors. The fact that depressing a release tab on the hinge the doors can be easily removed and replaced. The only problem I had was measuring 47/64".

The 3/8" overlay door hinge is fantastic. It's solid, strong, holds the door closed, is fairly easy to install and is completely invisible. I replaced the hinges on eight cabinet doors in about 3 hours.
I used the Rockler jig to speed things up and was very satisfied with the results. My real concern was mounting the hinge bracket to the cabinet's face frame. This was difficult, you're working in a closed in area that's not visible. You need a 90 degree drill, a centering bit and a small clamp to hold the mounting plate to the face frame. Using the Rockler jig to mount the hinge to the door makes your task simple. Every hinge is then in the same place allowing you to easily determine the hardware location on the cabinet face frame.
The hinges are expensive but worth every penny.

As described in the ad, these hinges are good for face frames only. Double check your cabinets before buying these hinges and drilling your doors. You may think you've got face frames to the right and left of each cabinet, but some connected cabinetry has a middle or "common" face frame that will surprise you. One side will extend, but the other side will be flush with the side of the adjoining cabinet. For instance a full length wall cabinet connected to a 12-inch horizontal cabinet extending over the refrigerator. Guys in the 50's used a common face in the middle which extended on one side, but was flush on the other. These hinges become useless in such situations. I found out after I drilled the holes for the hinges.

Tight work screwing to the back of the face frame. Sticks way into the cabinet so forget about a drawer. Barely lets the door open enough for a pull out tray.

On the expensive side. Not really difficult to install in new work. These are really worth the extra cost and effort. Provide a beautiful low profile look with no visible hinges. I'm not aware of anything else that does what these do. Well made and work great with lots of adjustment.
