I built a modified version of Norm's Router Table. I used his design for the cabinet, except I made it smaller, added wheels, and used a solid door instead of Plexiglass. I also used the switch here, instead of the one he specified.
I did not build Norm's top of fence. I bought both.

Mounted my router on the right wing of my table saw. This was an absolute must add saftey feature. The large paddle makes it a breeze to shut the power off with my knee. In my opinion a must for any power tool like an older table saw, router table etc.

I've bought 3 of these and I may buy a 4th. I have one for my router table, one for an old 1.5hp molder I've restored, and one for my shop vac. I have the shop vac under the wing of my table saw along with a cyclone and I have this power switch mounted on a post in a central location next to the saw. It does what it's supposed to do. The big stop paddle is removable.

I had originally wanted the old school pushbutton switch for my antique table saw. I have had this switch hardwired in for about two months and it has performed in an exemplary fashion. I tend to "whack" the stop paddle fairly hard and it takes whatever I give it. I will definitely buy more of these as I continue to restore my vintage woodshop.

I looked at several other brands of switches some costing twice as much before buying 2 of Rockler switches. The primary reason for choosing the Rockler was the oversize and easily accessible STOP switch - which was 50-100% larger than the others. The switch installed easily and works. I will end up buying another for a third power tool.

Excellent product. Installed quickly and easily and has performed better than the switch it replaced. I plan to get a second one which I would use on my table saw.

My router table is one of my woodshop’s most frequently used tools. This new Safety Power Tool Switch is a welcome replacement for the failed original keyed switch. This new unit is sturdy, oversized and possesses a simplicity of design most desirable in safety equipment. It installed in a matter of minutes, and has performed flawlessly. If any other tools in my shop require switch replacement, I will unhesitatingly purchase another. I would recommend this item to a friend.

Seems really good so far, been using it on a mid-sized router, probably turned on/off about 30-40 times so far, no issues. Stop paddle has come loose 1-2 times, waiting for it to break, but seems to be holding on ok. Product seemed as good or better than other brands similar products, especially for price when on sale

Good product. It does what it's supposed to do and hasn't failed me yet. The switch and power cords seem to be well built. The plastic "Stop" paddle works fine, but looks a little too much like a toy for my taste. I'd prefer something a little more stylish for my custom built router table. Even so, it's a great safety addition. Given the choice to do it over... Yeah, I'd buy it again.

I purchased this switch for a router table that I built. It does the job and is much more convenient than reaching under the table to turn the router on and off. The cords are very heavy duty and are long enough for my purposes. Good product.

Works as advertised and thus greatly increases the safety of whatever tool you are using (I have mine on my router table so I don't have to reach underneath the router/table to turn it off. The large "stop" paddle makes it easy to turn off the switch with a bump of your thigh so you don't have to take your hands or eyes off the workpiece or tool itself.

The cords are a very thick gauge and the plugs are sturdy feeling. I don't have any complaints about the product, just a small observation that I was surprised at. The "stop" paddle isn't actually the off switch. It is merely a loosely hinged paddle that rests freely on top of a smaller stop button underneath the paddle so that when you press the stop paddle, it presses on the stop button. It gets the job done nonetheless, but it feels a little cheap that way. I've seen other large safety paddle switches like this (such as on the SawStop tablesaw) where the paddle itself is the switch. But for only $30, the current design is good enough and a good value too. Overall, a great product and I have no regrets about the purchase.

Liked the one I put on my table saw so much that I had to have one for my home built router table. Greatly increases safety as the large OFF button is easy to bump with my knee so I never take my eyes off the cutting area or my hands off my project.

I am the safety officer for the Corp of Engineers @ Eielson AFB and I think every router table should have this device. It is easy to see how when bending under table with a slip your hand could contact the rotating router bit. In addition by the time you buy an electrical box and cover and charge $10 for your time the switch is cheaper.

Received Safety Power Tool Switch for use on my Rockler Router Table. From all descriptions and photos it appears that switch bolts to one of the legs of the router table. What a surprise - this was not the case. 1. The machine screws furnished with the switch are larger than the holes in the legs. 2. The spacing between the two holes in the switch do not line up with the holes in the table legs. The simple installation now involves having to enlarge one of the holes in the leg and drilling a new hole for the second bolt.

This is a very good product. I've used it on my router table for a couple years now. I was skeptical at first about how well it would stand up, but have had no problems after a lot of use. I appreciate both the convenience and safety it brings. Seems best mounted on the left side of the frame, so it's near my left hand at the end of a pass.

I would appreciate enough current capability to switch both router and vac, 25-30A, but I think that's a much more expensive item. This one does a very good job with the router alone.

I really like this switch. It is constructed very well. The large push button for "on" and huge stop sign button for "off" are designed very nicely.
If I would have one suggestion it would be to have the outlet for the router built into the unit on the back or side and also add an addional outlet for your shop vac so the router and shop vac turn on simultaneously.
As it is designed now I just added an adapter for the plug so I can plug in both the vac and router.
I would buy this again.

I purchased this switch to put on my table saw. I only have a small toggle style switch on it, and was looking for a safer switch to shut off my table saw. I found that I always had both hands busy holding the wood and reaching over the spinning blade and wanted a switch to shut off the saw with my knee. This switch did the trick. I mounted it and knee level on my table saw stand and works just as I wanted.

I bought a Safety Power Tool Switch for the router table I just built. I fabricated a bracket out of 1/8" by 3/4" bar stock to facilitate mounting it to the table. The convenient accessability of the safety switch sure beats fishing around under the table trying to locate the on/off switch of the router. I was so impressed with the product that I immediately ordered another one for my table saw. Now I can have both hands free to control the stock I'm cutting while I turn off the saw with my knee. The safety switch could not be more simple to install and operate. The increased level of safety is worth its weight in gold. I heartily recommend this product to all woodworkers.

A definite safety must have for any router table - large stop paddle is easily engaged with even one's hip in case of an emergency (hopefully never needs to be implemented but great to know it's there). As mentioned in previous review, the mounting screws are a bit short that make initial mounting a bit tricky but that is very minor.

Pros: The "stop" paddle works fine so far. Sufficient cord length for both the in and out cables.
Cons: Screw/washer/nuts provided were not long enough to get full nut/thread engagement through my Kreg metal router table leg. Kreg must have thicker metal? The power cables are stiff and will not coil easily due to memory.

Very useful. I had to make an external wooden-box to attach it to my old Delta 3660 Table Saw, but I am confident now that by extending my leg I can turn the blade off due to be hand busy.

I am using this switch on a router table I made. It is easy to mount on the surface of my frame and works great. I am concerned about the red paddle lever that turns the switch off holding up. Really like the large kill switch. As other reviewers have stated, it's easy to hit with a knee while keeping both hands away from, and both eyes on, a spinning blade. The one problem that I've had with it is that it is meant to be mounted flush with a table for the reasons of using a knee to actuate, as stated above, but in that position, when you walk by it, you're very likely to hit the switch with your clothing, and knock the big STOP paddle off of the switch housing. It's replaced easily enough, but if the fingers were a little longer, the switch wouldn't come off as easy.

I'd been wanting this switch for some time. I attached it to my table saw. As I push forward to make a cut, I can use my knee to kill the power to the saw while still maintaining control of the material. It's a real safety benefit in that, I do not have to pull the material back and/or let go with one hand to turn the saw off.

It was the right price and it does what it says it does. The over-sized plastic stop button is perhaps less durable than I had hoped (cheaper plastics used in its construction). It is a straight forward installation, however, it only ships with metal screws and nuts for what I assume is an intended installation on the steel table base. I built my own table base of re-milled 2x4 and went to the wood screw jar for the right hardware to attach my safety-start/stop to one of the legs. The power cords are heavy duty, but the plugs male/female ends have a harder shiny plastic feel (as opposed to an electric plug rubber), which leaves the feeling that the tool's plug isn't getting a tight fit; for which I'm not too worried about as it [is] stationary and not prone to a lot of movement or fiddling.

I installed the Safety Power Tool Switch on a cabinet I built for my router table top. The cabinet has drawers on the front, so the switch had to be mounted on the side.
Without looking, I can reach around and slap the off switch in an instant.
Looks like good quality and very simple to install.
I will also install one on my older Grizzly table saw, which has a hard to reach and locate switch.
Well worth the money.

I have a Delta contractors table saw. I was always concerned about the safety of such small toggle switch mounted low, just above the base. This switch is just the thing. I mounted it above the old toggle switch and now I can stop the saw with my knee.
This is a great safety device and should be on all table saws. I highly recommend it for anyone that is concerned about safety.

New units are better quality controled. I purchased an older unit two years ago ( actually same as new unit but without the paddle flap) and I was using it on my router table, when smoke started comming out of the switch. When I disasembled the switch the black wire connector onto the switch screw had never been screwed in all the way ,one eight inch gap, and arcing had pitted the screw and the wire connector in place.
Everdently on a longer running router operation the connection overheated to the point of melting the insultion on the wire.
Upon purchasing and receiving the two new style switches, I opened them and checked the connections. All OK...

I bought two of these switches when they were on sale, one for my table saw and one for my router table. I have an older Delta contractor's saw with the tiny toggle switch. It always made me nervous feeling around for that little switch to turn off the saw while holding my work. I mounted this switch right up front on the underside of my fence rail. No more fumbling around trying to find the swich. You can't miss the large STOP paddle. If both hands are holding onto your work, you can just hit it with you knee. This is a great safty enhancement to my saw.

I used to have to lean under my home made router table to look for the small swich on my router. Now I just have to hit the big STOP button on your swich to turn off my router. I mounted the swich on the side of the table up front. Not only is this so much more convenient but a great deal safer.

But what about the switches you sold without
the stop paddles? I have 2 that I bought from Rockler. Looks like the holes are there just need the paddles. It's not like Rockler to sell an incomplete product! With the stop paddle it’s a much safer switch.

Editor's note: At the time you purchased the earlier design Tom the switches were complete for their time. Our product developers used that switch as a starting point to come up with the new design. The new design included a new shape to it's mold in order to get a proper fit for the stop paddle. The old switches are perfectly useable, but unfortunately the paddles from the new design will not fit on the old switches.

My older cabinet saw switch was located deep under the cast iron top and off to the right. There have been some scary moments while I groped for that awkwardly located toggle switch. The new large paddle switch is conveniently located so that a quick knee tap can shut the beast down. I regret not doing this years ago. I might could have saved that 8' 2x4 that I propelled out of the shop, through the open door and down two stories, not to mention the car below.

Being an industrial electrician I am a firm believer in safety controls as well as user friendly and ergonomic controls. This safety switch meets those requirements. To date I have purchased three of these paddle design switches and have installed them on my table saw, router table and jointer. I will continue to install these switches on more equipment in the future. Keep up the good work in designing and finding these safety products and making them available to us at a reasonable cost.

This switch is an exact copy of the one on my Jet table saw. It does what it was designed to go and that is provide a easy target for turning off the power and a more restricted one for turning it on. It is simply a safety device and does exactly what it was designed to do. It could have been enhanced by making the plug duplex so that those using vacs for DC would have a easy way to turn on both the tool and the vac. One can still do that with a plug in duplex socket. Else it works without problems.

It's important to have quick and easy access to a power tool switch. When a router is mounted inside a table cabinet the switch is often difficult to reach. I mounted the safety power tool switch to the outside of the cabinet. You could turn the tool off with your knee if required. This is a quality switch.

Already have two earlier Rockler switches without the 'STOP' paddle in use on a router table and a remote shop vac for a couple of years now without any problems. I use this safety switch for my Rockler router table. Without the switch I have to reach under the table to turn off the router which is inconvenient not to mention dangerous. The safety swich is big and allows for a quick "turn off" when I'm done with my routing operation.

I received the switch as a Christmas gift from my two daughters (w/ a little assistance ). I'll be using it on a homemade stand for an older Craftsman cast iron table saw. The homemade stand design will position the switch as knee height, so I can simply bump the switch w/ my knee to shut of the saw.
The switch will save me a lot of fumbling around looking for the small rocker-style switch that I'm currently using;

Just what I needed to improve the safety factor on the older Craftsman saw that I saved from destruction. The large "off" paddle is very convenient and beats having to bend over to reach the small wall type switch that was on the saw. The switch itself seems to be well sealed against dust something that plagued a factory switch on another saw that I had. Good price for added safety for me.

I bought this to go with the Jessem Mast-R-Lift and Excel™ Table System. It is a very good switch and the stop paddle is the right size. I would have given this product a 5, however, it doesn't mount with the enclosed bolts to the Jessem router stand. Some modifications were done to secure it properly to the frame. The short little 1/4" bolts just don't cut it.

This is identical to a Jet switch I had bought previously. This switch is a drop in mechanically and electrically for the Jet and it adds a STOP paddle. For my saw, I removed the included cords and wired in place of my (dead) switch. I mounted it horizontally and the STOP paddle works fine. I think this price is at least 1/2 the Jet switch without the paddle. The cords are heavy duty and rugged.

I used the switch on a large table mounted drill press that I have employed for the past fifty years. Since I have been accustomed to reaching for the Delta H.D. push button switch to turn the motor on and off, I retained it and wired the paddle-type safety switch at knee level between the between the power outlet and the original power plug, so it could be used to kill the power in an emergency situation.

I installed this switch on an early 1950's table saw both for safety and practicality as the original switch is in the back on the motor. I used metal brackets attached to the screws holding the extension wing on. This allowed me to locate in a good spot that’s not way under the table.

With the big stop removed.

I searched around and liked the price of this product but was a little disappointed with the quality. When one hits the large paddle to turn the switch off, the paddle often pops completely off of the tabs holding it on, so you have to re-install the paddle. I fixed mine with a couple rubber bands.

The switch operates well with this exception. When pushing the large stop paddle it detaches fron the switch. The pins that hold the paddle in place are not long enough to keep the paddle attached to the switch housing.
To correct this problem I removed the pins and replaced them with #8-32 threaded rod long enough to go through both of the mounting holes for the paddle. I secured the nuts to keep them in place on the rod.
Thank you for your inquire. I appreciate the opportunity to share my feelings on this product. Thank you.

I had to get a second switch for my custom router cabinet. I placed it on the side of the cabinet. Not a good location. I keep knocking off the red stop plate. It is not of the greatest design. When it finally breaks, I will fabricate a more appropriate one. Overall, I am still pleased with the switch.

I bought this for my router table and I only use it maybe once a month so it had not been turned off and on maybe more that 50 times before it stopped working. At first the on switch would not work but after a number of pushes it turned on but then the off switch would not work. I opened it up and found that the switch itself was defective. How can a simple switch go bad so quickly?

This switch I discovered can help you if you own a powermatic 64a not sure about the 63 tablesaw. the faceplate of this switch can be swapped for the faceplate of the original 64a switch. It's NOT changing any electronics ONLY the plastic knobs that operate the switch mechanism. This allows you to turn this baby off with your knee. I'm 6'4" and always struggled to find the off button when my hands were above the table trying to be safe and controlled. Now I can turn the saw off with my knee while maintaining control of the workpiece. Discovering this was a pleasant surprise and I felt I would be a good doobie and maybe help someone else out with a 64a. I cannot speak about switch itself as it's sitting in the drawer but it looks sturdy enough

I bought this to replace my table saw switch that has been back ordered for months now. I will say this, It is heavy duty as far as the cords and the switch. I give it a lower rating because the stop paddle, which is required as a safety and speed of shutting down the saw, falls off every other time I hit it. A quick snap back on but when it falls off the saw is still on. When this happens you need a finger to stop it. I think I can modify the paddle some how, but I don't think anyone wants a chance of needing the safety portion of the switch and its not there.

Good safety concept, poor execution in design. The paddle shouldn't be larger than the footprint of the body of the switch. Since the logical location for the switch is in the front- where it can be bumped with one's hip - because the super-sized paddle interferes with the aesthetics of the front of a well designed router table base. The worst flaw is the fact that the paddle flies off the switch every time it's used. You could  make a simple change to the plastic injection mold for the paddle and fix this problem. No excuse for the slipshod design.
