Simply straddle the board between the pins and cut your mortise – perfectly centered every time! Plate is constructed of 1/4" Acrylic with 1-1/2" opening, and is transparent for visibility. Solid brass guides thread easily into 3 different insert settings for a variety of wood thicknesses and for non-centered mortises. Predrilled hole pattern fits: Porter Cable 690/890 series, Makita 1100-1101 series, Bosch 1617-1618 (fixed base only) and Dewalt DW616/DW618. 6-1/2" diameter. 11/16"L guide posts.

I know we can make our own special use base plates like this one but I've got to tell you, for the $9.99 price tag it just isn't worth it! This is a top grade item and besides being useful for cutting mortises it gives you the advantage of having a see through base plate on your router for every day jobs!

This is me back in my knife making days!

Fast delivery. Tried it out this evening. Works great. Had to drill a couple of mounting holes for my Ryobi but got lucky and was successful first try. Clamped a 3/4# piece in the vise and presto. A mortise right down the center. The base would easily get 5 stars if there were different models for different routers. No binding issues like other reviewers had. I think they may be twisting the router too tightly against the wood. It's a shame that the opening is 1 1/2" instead of 1 1/4". I could leave this plate on my router permanantly. If it had been designed to accept template bushings it would be the "perfect" base.

I also failed to read that the base wouldn't fit my Skil router, but with a little modification I had it mounted, and running. This base saved me alot of time and frustration. Thanks.

Bought this on sale and it's well worth the price. I will agree with other reviewers about the brass pins not sliding as well as they could but it does work. you just have to make sure you hold the pins against the wood tightly as you move the router. I plan on replacing the pins with some sliding glass door track wheels or small bearings.
For $ the plate with the threaded inserts is worth it as there are other things you can use it for.

I failed to read that the base was not pre-drilled for my model router (Bosch 1617/1618 EVS) and was very upset at myself when I went back and read this in the catalog after I tried it. I did find that the metal guide posts fit perfectly into holes that were pre-drilled into the router's plunge base, however. Using it in this way, I have been very successful. The only suggestion I would offer would to be to install a bearing, such as on a flush trim bit, to reduce the friction against the stock.

Great product, that makes an easy job of mortises. Using shims on the sides of the project adds a lot of flexibility. I am sure a wedge secured properly on top would also allow different angles as well, though I have not tried it yet. Great product! Thanks again Rockler!

I hate to only give this product three stars, but the brass pins don't glide along the wood very well. In its provided form, it was difficult to create smooth, consistent mortises because the pins would "grab" the wood. It took a very delicate hand to operate and was prone to error. My fix was making new pins out of screws (jam nuts keep them from coming loose) with nylon spacers over the threads. (Two dollars and some change at the local big box.) The spacers act like bearings/bushings and roll smoothly along the wood without marking it. Had the product arrived in this form, I would have had no reservations awarding it fives stars.
