This tapered countersink bits are an excellent addition to any woodshop.  I use mine anytime I need to place a screw as it drills a nice tapered hole so the screw doesnt split the wood and it leaves a nice counter sunk hole and you can adjust the stop to make the taper thin or deep. These bits are made of hardened chrome steel and should last me a lifetime! i highly recommend this product.

Like the vast majority of Rockler's products, their R&D team paid attention when this one was designed, and only gave submitted to marketing when it was built right. The solid, router bit-like thick shank and deep flutes on the tapered drill bits place these items far and away in a superior class above the skinny drill bits with a cheap over-sized counter-sink collar bits you can get for around $20 or so.

All the same, I do have one observation:
The adjustable collar should have been more like a split ring collar instead of just a set screw variety. The split ring would be sized just a hair wider than the shank to which it attaches, and it would register tightly against the shank when a set screw is torqued down on it, even lightly.

The advantage of this arrangement would be that it doesn't wiggle around, which the dual set screw version DOES and even just a little bit at high drill speeds mars the work!, so it would register much more FLATLY against the work-piece for a far smoother result.

Being able to adjust it to slide north or south without tilting 'east' or 'west' would be the next improvement guaranteed to minimize frustration with this otherwise fine design.

Keep up the great work, Rocklers! You good folks are rockin' it!!!!!

Had a lot of countersinks over the years, and these are far and away the best I've ever owned. Very adjustable to bit and countersink depth without putting a set screw in the bit's flutes. They leave clean holes and clean countersinks. Only test left is the test of time. If they hold up, they're outstanding.

The countersink I've used only one so far performed well and I'm happy to have purchased it. I have one suggestion that would raise my opinion from Very Good to Excellent.

The adjustable collar should be a split ring collar instead of the set screw type. A split ring is sized only slightly larger than the clamping surface and contracts and grabs the shankwhen a clamping screw is tightened. When in place it won't wobble like the dual set screw version thus smoothly contacts the work piece. It's also easier to adjust because you can adjust it to where it slides in either direction without tilting.

These counter sink bits are great. As soon as I recieved them I used them on red oak. Talk about smooth. They are well worth the money. You get what you pay for.

"I purchased 4 sets of Steel Table Legs at a huge discount! More than 50% off compared to what I thought was already a good deal from another online store. Had to cancel that one and thankful I found this site. My hours of searching online paid off. "
