Before I used my miter sled ..I masked off 3 1/2 " wide "Pads" on the miter rail on the back side ...not the screw side then applied JB Weld to each of those masked areas . After it set up hard I took a flat file and fitted it to my miter slot in my saw ... This works great ...Its very easy to get an exact tight fit and still smooth and easy to slide... and as it wears later I can still bring the screws out ever so slightly to make those adjustments.

I have a Delta Shopmaster and it fits fine but needs fine tuning with the screws. The screws loosen every few cuts so you need to keep those adjusted. Otherwise it works fine.

I found it easy to use and great when I need perfect 45's.
It saved my bacon on one recent project.
Problems
- The plastic set screws used to tighten up the slid in the slot allow you to make not quite 45's although the combined angle is still 90 degrees
- The set screws are soft and will wear.
- The plastic surface was slippery. Solved this by gluing sandpaper to the surface.

Very simple, safe, easy to use, accurate 45's. I had been using a home made sliding table for my 45's. This little jig does it easier and just as accurate.

I just got this and to test it I found a strip of plywood and cut 4 triangles, eyeballing every cut. and I came out with a perfect square. no gaps because of an angle being off, and no set up. I can't wait for the 30 and 60 degree Miter Sleds. now that I've used it, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't own this thing.

No way does it replace a good miter guage like my Incra. This item is OK but it has a tendency to tip forward. Sorry I spent the money, but good for someone that does not have an accurate miter guage for his table saw. Hey, it is another tool....LOL

I found the miter sled easy to use for quick miters. It arrived as I getting ready to case four doors and it worked well without any resetting. It would be nice if provisions were made for extensions without having a clamp in the way.

I have found more and more that it pays to have simple, accurate jigs for various projects available in the home shop. I like this one. I also love the fact that there are both instructions and a video online at Rockler to aid in using the device properly and the exposure to additional ideas for other uses.

Don't know, it looks like a good product, that's why I bought it. I have two table saws, a Grizzly and an Hitachi. It doesn't fit on either one. You don't mention anywhere that it fits some saws and not others.

Had to adjust set screws to get to the 45 degree. But seems to good after that . I added a larger base , a tape measure to keep the length even, and sand paper. I am also adding a clamp to base for the hold down. I also want add a peace of clear plastic with magnet hold down over blade on opposite side for safety

45 with larger sled and measure

I have a ShopSmith with a very loose mitre gauge. The Rockler 45 degree mitre sled is a perfect answer for me. I do make a lot of picture frames, and used to spend a lot of time on the disc sander after a cut with the ShopSmith mitre gauge. The Rockler mitre sled has eliminated that step. The plastic bushings did make for a tight fit. I did not experience any slop.

This simple plastic triangular jig surely works better that the miter guage that came with my table saw. The little set screws allow for a nice snug fit in the slot and keep the jig from shifting, insuring consistant 45 degree cuts from either side of the jig. It's certainly better than spending time making an accurate one from scrap.

Fit my odd-sized old Craftsman table saw's track perfectly, using built-in allen nylon spacers. Simple device - obeys the KISS rule - yet it also does the job flawlessly. If you remember to use the opposite edge of the device for your second (mating) piece of stock, it will match up perfectly every time, even if your saw is a bit out of adjustment. Indispensable item for both my table saw and my router table.

Very nice, simple solution to accurate miters. But I agree that the nylon set screw adjustment idea needs to be improved. They quickly vibrate out of adjustment and with use, I expect they would wear down. Instead of the screws, I used a thin strip of Slick Strip UHMW tape on one side of the miter slot bar. Not only did it take up the slop, it also makes the sled slide better in the miter track. I also put a few pieces of Slick Strip on the bottom surface of the sled which prevents the sled from rocking back and forth and really makes the sled glide across my cast iron Delta saw table. Note to Rockler: you really need to carry Slick Strip!! The stuff will make anything slide better. One note of warning, though. Make sure your saw's blade and miter slot are perfectly aligned or your miter cuts will be off. Not even the most expensive miter gauge or sled will give an accurate miter cut on a saw that is out of alignment.

Used this sled for cutting miters for picture frames on a table saw. Worked great! The only set back is the set screws used to adjust the guide to the saw slot are somewhat sloppy and will not stay adjusted. Solved this by dropping a little glue on the threads. Other than that, this is a great tool and well worth the money.

I tried the miter sled on some test cuts. I am amazed at the accuracy of the 45 degree cuts.I recommend it to anyone who uses a table saw.
The only small complaint I have is that it could use a brief instruction sheet--or label. It is not obvious that there ARE adjusting screws that take up any play between the sled's guide rails and the miter slot on a table saw. The heads of the nylon allen screws are not readily visible.

For the price you pay this jig works great for fames that I like to build. The slots in the clamping area makes it easy to get just about type clamp in place on a work piece and or backer board. In a 12' x 20" shop you can't a bunch of really big advanced jigs hanging every where. Good Job.

Wow, this thing works! Given how many times I've had do-overs with 45's, I'm pretty darn pleased with this. So far, the several 45's I've cut came out just great. I will say this, the adjustment for the miter slot is difficult at best to adjust. But with patience all things adjust.

My 45's came out pretty good. I was cutting oak and maple so I used a new blade and did not have to make any substantial adjustments to the saw. I also tried the sled on my band saw and it worked better than the adjustable tool I have, of course only for 45 degree cuts.

The concept is great but to use it the slot in your saw table must be at least 3-7/8" from the inside of the slot to the blade. My table saw is less than that. I can use it with the point of the sled away from the blade but then there is a lot of room between the blade and the sled.

Simple and clever. But the set screws used to adjust to the width of the table slot are too loose and a little cheesy. I would like to see a stouter set screw that fit tightly in its hole so that it did not loosen.
52) Submitted by Evansville, IN on 2/25/2008
The 'concept' of this device is good. But this 45' Miter Sled only works if your saw blade is precisely parallel to the table slot.

I will agree, that by cutting the angle, one from each surface, that you get a perfect complimentary angle between the two and they always equal 90'. But a complementary angle is not neceassarily a 'good fit' particularly if you are putting picture frames together.

If your blade is 'not' parallel to the table slots, then you could have the possiblity of having a 40' angle and a 50' angle. Combined they are a perfect 90' and when you put the 90' square in the corner it's perfect. But, then take a look at the joint. One leg is much longer than the other and the fit is poor.

The concept is good, but the idea only works if your saw is set up perfect.

I was assuming that the product was attached to a miter sled, the product is hard to hold while cutting the angle, so I will use is to outline my cuts, as I feel that while holding it too the blade it may slip.

This is a great product. I have always avoided miters because I could never seem to get them right. Now that's a thing of the past. I see what other people are saying about the nylon set screws. No big deal. Just replace them with metal ones when they wear out. The item is a lot bigger in person.

I an very happy with the tool. I find that if excessive pressure is not exerted when inserting and using it the nylon set screws do not distort. It took several tries to set them so the angle was a true 45 degrees, but once there it has stayed.

I am very pleased with this miter jig. I have made many jigs over the years (from woodworking magazines), but none of them yielded the consistent joints I desired (my construction inaccuracy probably accounted for most of that!). This jig fits my old Craftsman saw perfectly (using the nylon adjustment screws). It doesn't matter if the faces are exactly 45° to the blade - since the two angles are complementary, the sum of the two cuts is exactly 90°. I made a picture frame with sides about 2 ft long, and all 4 joints were tight. This not only proves the concept, but validates the precise manufacture of the jig's 90° angle.
I have already recommended it to some woodworker friends.

What nylon set screws? All that I received was the sled.
Regardless, in that I use a Shopsmith, the sled miter angle was too big for the distance from the blade to the table groove. Subsequently, I had to remove about 3/8" of the angle before I could use the sled.
Bottom line: I used the sled to build a frame, and it worked OK. I agree with suggestion that holes could be drilled for an auxillary fence. I would still recommend this to others.

Editor's note: This item has pre-installed adjustable nylon pins that are designed to provide a no-slop fit to 3/4" wide miter tracks. These are in the small holes found guide bar of the sled.

I used this sled to make a face frame for a cabinet (with mitered corners) and a few picture frames. It does what it is intended and advertised to do. But, there could be a few improvements.
The nylon set "screw" gets 'mashed' and flattened with minimal to moderate use. I had to adjust the sled a few time to keep things tight. However, doing this does provice a no-slop fit.
It would be great if the sled as pre-drilled for an auxiliary fence. There are lines and indentation outlining where one should drill. But I'm sure the manufacturer would do a better, cleaner and more consistent job than I can.
This sled would be awesome if it were about 2 inches longer on each side (the non-corner side) just to add some more of a fence to hold material against.
Overall, I recommend this product, but would love to see future buyers benefit from these improvements.
Oh, last thing... a convenient pre-drilled hole or catch to hang it on the wall! It's an odd size and shape which otherwise takes up space in a drawer.

The idea is great. BUT!! I have a Shop Master saw and the miter track is 11/16" wide and the miter bar of the 45
angle frame is 3/4". Needless to say it doesn't fit. If the miter bar was about 1/2 or slightly bigger a person could use the adjustable pins to fit.[]
This would be great for picture franes and smaller items.

For the price this is a good product, however the miter slide did not fit my Craftsman table saw snugly and there is no adjustment available. I have found that by maintaining pressure while running stock it does a good job. I would recommend the manufacturer add an adjustment capability or include shims of some kind.

Too small for good fit to variety of workpieces; nylon set screws wear out, introducing slop and rendering the jig useless unless you re-adjust before every use. If priced [lower], might be rated higher.

Recently purchased this item. It's an excellent concept but the nylon set screws that take up the slop in the miter slot are a bad design. I'd have rather seen them make it a few thousands oversize so you could sand it to fit. The screws come out of adjustment very rapidly and that can throw the jig off by a degree or so. Also, they could have drilled it to fit auxillary fences and the like. Your table saw has to be set perfectly for this to work correctly. The blade must be parallel to the miter slot. I'm sure I could have shop made a jig that would work as good or better than this one. Good idea, poor execution.

I returned this product because it is too light weight for average use. The bar that sits in the miter slot is too short and the adjustment screws for proper fit are loose and sloppy causing them to vibrate out of position.

It took me a while to find the nylon adjustments, and until then I thought I'd wasted my money on a sled which rattled around loosely in the miter track.
After adjustment, it worked fine, but it would be much better at this price if it were one or two inches taller AND had holes for screwing an extension facing onto it. It's often too short/narrow to adequately support work that's thin or short.
It's rugged and may double as a nice 90-degree reference or triangle, if you need one.

A good idea that's been minimalized by the bean counters. Too short, too skinny and the cheesy nylon adjustment screws could easily have been brass with fine threads. I could set it up for perfect 45's on both sides, however after 5 passes the nylon screws had mushed and the sled became loose and wobbly in the track. I'll keep it and make it work, but for $5.00 more could have had a winner.

Does a great job for that quick miter. Mine was a bit sloppy in the table saw groove (Delta Unisaw) but a shim of kapton tape and it works fine. Because of the design it has no length stop ability which is sometimes important. For the price can’t beat it as a convenience fixture.

I made my first picture frame about 2 months ago, and when I saw this product in your catalog, I ordered it immediately. It seems like a great idea. But I have a Delta Shopmaster 200L table saw and the miter sled doesn't fit in the table saw track. I had to return the miter sled. Please make some sort of adjustment to your sled to fit my track. We with small shops and small tools need this tool.

One of the worst product I have purchased. The fit in the miter tracks was very sloppy resulting in very poor 45 +- 5 degree cuts. I sent it back.

Editor's note: This item has pre-installed adjustable nylon pins to provide a no-slop fit to the miter track. The pins need to be turned out with an allen key to adjust for fit. If they are not adjusted, slop as described here would be present.

It would not adjust to the miter slot. Sleeve would not move so I ran a 3/4 inch screw into the sleeve that needed to be moved. Placed my speed square on the edge of the table saw and aligned the 45 degree to it. Works fine now.

So easy to setup for frame or anything that requires a 45* angle. Wonder if it will wear out?

I really want to like this tool, it's very simple and seems like it should work very well. However a few things I don't like about it make me not want to give it a higher rating. First off the nylon set screws seem very cheap, I suspect that they will wear out quite quickly causing constant adjustments. Speaking of adjustments, the sled didn't track square in my miter slot so I had to fiddle with it quite a bit to get it square to the blade. Lastly, the way the sled is made doesn't give you much room to clamp a board. It seems a wide board may run the risk of having the clamp come quite close to the blade.

This item is completely plastic ("high-impact polycarbonate ensures durability and low-friction sliding") but still slightly flimsy. It did not fit snugly in my Hitachi table saw miter slot but a Rockler taper sled did fit snugly so it is probably not the miter slot dimensions.

Editor's note: Please note that this sled has pre-installed adjustable nylon pins for adjusting fit to the miter track.

I bought this miter sled on-sale so it was a good deal money-wise to begin. I was making a couple of picture frames last weekend so I decided to use it. As it turned, the sled was dead on accurate. The frames had tight miters and they looked great. I was using my hand to hold the frame instead of a clamp. The frame was too narrow to put a clamp on. It worked just fine. Because it took me several cuts for each miter to get it true, I had to twist out the adjustable pins constantly. Otherwise, the sled became loose in the track. Perhaps this needs to be redesigned.

I have to admit as a woodworker, I felt like I should be building one of these things. I have certainly seen mitre sleds before, and even built one years ago. This is kind of a twist on the old idea, quite literally in fact, as they rotated the jig 90° from what we normally see. The video showed a person using a stop against the rip fence, and this kind of appealed to me as you could cut your molding to length, and not have to worry about length stops, which requires a long fence, adjustable stops, etc. If you make frames over 30" or so, long fences with stops are a bit cumbersome to use. The concept here is great. As long as the jig is 90°, and the slot is parallel to the table, you are gold. Well, my jig measured 90.2°. .2° is not a whole lot, but if you multiply that times four, that's .8 or nearly 1° off. That's not going to produce pristine miters. Strike one. As other people mentioned the nylon set screws are a very soft and wear down extremely fast. Strike two. The jig is a little bit small, and felt as though it could pretty easily come out of the miter slot. I just didn't like the "feel" of how it slid across the table. I'm sure other woodworkers can relate to the "feel" of certain tools and jigs. Strike three. So, I think they have a good idea going, it's just not very well executed in my opinion. I will make my own, which is probably what I should have done to begin with, but was feeling lazy. Lesson learned.

This jig would have been ideal if it fit tightly in the miter groove slot on my Craftsman table saw. As it is you have to really pay special attention to holding the jig just right so that it does not move while making your cut. Not worth the $

Editor's note: This item has pre-installed adjustable nylon pins that are designed to provide a no-slop fit to 3/4" wide miter tracks. These are in the small holes found guide bar of the sled.
