This Flattening Stone will keep your waterstones straight and flat for razor-sharp edges. It eliminates the “dish” that develops in waterstones over time and exposes a fresh cutting face for faster, more effective sharpening. This stone features coarse-grit silicon carbide that cuts quickly, and deep diagonal grooves that allow waste material to easily escape. For waterstones only. Measures 9" x 3" x 3/4".

  • Comes in a padded plastic case.
  • For best results, bring the waterstone to the Flattening Stone.
  • To ensure the entire surface of the waterstone is flat, use a pencil to draw a grid on its surface before flattening.

This flattening stone abrades in use, and very quickly becomes concave. When that happens, it creates a convex surface on any stones that are used with it. I find that I need to flatten the "flattening stone" so often that it is just about useless. Better to use abrasive paper on glass or other smooth, flat surface for flattening waterstones.

This thing was cupped right out of the box and was twisted end to end. I assumed that it would be flat, my mistake. Left a big belly in my almost new waterstones. Save your money and buy cheap sandpaper. So much for made in the USA. I try to buy everything I can made in the USA. Norton just lost my support.

Purchased at 5:15 pm, drove home, used for 2 minutes and it's already concave at 5:50 pm the same day. Convex shaping to the stone [I was] trying to flatten. Total waste of money.

Was not flat out out of the box. Flattened quickly with diamond plate and did good job flattening water stones. Generally flatten water stones using two 1000 grits against each other and then using them on the 8000. Works well when the 1000s are flat. My only reason for keeping it was to lessen the wear on my diamond plate though that probably should not be a concern. It does flatten the water stones quickly.

This stone was not flat out of the box. I had no way of flattening it so this thing is useless and just taking up space at the moment. Spend more money on a diamond stone, or a piece of granite. I wish I had read more of the reviews before I bought mine. I'm contacting Norton to try to get my money back.

Not a big fan of the flattening stone. The stone wears quickly, and I need to use a diamond stone to flatten the flattening stone. Similarly, I find that during long sharpening sessions, the flattening stone clogs easily. I would just use a diamond stone to flatten waterstones.
