Now you can machine 35mm hinge cup holes with your router instead of a drill - a nice option when you don’t have space for a drill press. Since your hinge mounting screws serve double-duty as clamps, setup is simple. Just screw it on, rout and repeat! Can be adjusted for either 3mm or 5mm tabs. Designed for Blum hinges. Use with the 5/8" Short-Shank Guide Bushing, (specially designed for 1/4" template stock) and a 1/2" spiral upcut bit.

Even a beginner can do it! Had to go out and get the 1/2" router bit, though. Will use all these things time and time again, and like others said, cost effective for the hobbiests.

Elegant in its simplicity and perfect in its functionality; I love this little template. I had been using the Festool jig but found it to be overly complex and frustrating. I purchased this template (it was cheap) and a carbide bit from American Carbide and have been thrilled with how well they work-quick and easy with better results than the big bucks Festool.
If I could suggest an improvement it would be to put a more visible registration mark on the bottom of the template.

Great little jig! I already had the bit and the bushing so this was the least expensive way for me to get my holes bored. As others have noted, using a plunge router will minimize any chance of catastrophes. Worked perfectly for me. A good option for those on a budget.

Worked like a charm! I was able to rout sixteen 35mm cup holes in an hour. I can hold off on the drill press purchase for a while longer now! Super fast shipping as always from Rockler.

Make sure you use a plunge router. It can be done with a fixed base but then you run the risk of dropping the bit into the jig. A 1/2" spiral bit will destroy the jig in short order. I'm off to buy another jig due to being too lazy to get out my big P/C plunge. Needless to say I will be using the beast for the remaining 24 hinges I need to complete.

Instructions were a little confusing to me, and after a phone call to technical support, sorted out the 3 mm and 5 mm offsets.

I had trouble with the bushing coming loose from the subbase, no matter how hard I tightened it. Although I did successfully make a test hole, my first attempt on a door destroyed bushing, jig, door, and probably bit. Despite repeated attempts to make sure bit was centered in the bushing, and free to rotate without interference, the combination I had did not work for me. It could be me, or my router (porter cable 890 with an aftermarket sub-base), or just a faulty bushing, but I am looking for a different approach now.

Save your money. Purchased the jig, spiral 1/2" router bit, 5/8" bushing. Had no trouble setting up and drilling holes. The Blum 35mm face frame hinges won't go inside hole. Reamed out the plexiglas guide hole with a rasp and now the hinges fit. I'm not telling you what to buy, just what not to buy.
