Since these blanks are stabilized, they drill and turn as easily as any non-punky hardwood would. Also, the stabilization process would presumably reduce the number of loose fungal spores in the wood, so nuisance dust is less of a nuisance. (You should definitely wear a dust mask anyway - pneumonia and bark-strippers disease are linked to overexposure to rotted wood.) Since the wood often has a grayish color, I'll usually pick out satin nickel hardware, but chrome and gold look great as well.
