Just plug right in for data AND power. Two electrical outlets and 7 ports above the desktop: 4 USB downstream, 1 phone, 1 Ethernet (LAN) and 1 USB upstream. Three ports below the desktop: 1 Ethernet (LAN), 1 phone and 1 USB 2.0 upstream. A six-foot grounded power cord and surge protection keep the juice running and regulated for worry-free operation. Personally, I think this is am excellent product. All your power sources, close at hand, and readily accessible. Unfortunately, the customer we purchased it for was not so thrilled. I think I'll ask the boss if I can buy this from him,...

Drilled a hole in my desk for the unit only to discover it didn't work. My computer kept telling me that a unknown device was connected. No matter what I did I could not get it to work. No problem with connecting two other USB hubs or any other USB device that I had. Returned it. On the up side Rockler was able to sell me a grommet for the hole.

There is much to be said about this product! The USB hub functions great. The 4 downstream USB ports are powered when the unit is plugged in and turned on, even if not connected to a computer. There are primary and secondary upstream USB ports that allow you to plug one device into the secondary port in the bottom of the unit, say a wireless hub or a desktop computer, then plug another device into the primary port when needed, such as a laptop. When this is done it turns off the secondary port and routes everything through the primary port. I love this since my airport wireless hub connects to my printer/scanner and prints great but the scanner does not function wirelessly. It used to be that whenever I scanned something I had to crawl around under my desk and unplug the wire down below in order to plug it straight into my laptop. Now I just plug in to the unit sitting on my desktop. There is a wire tunnel so wires can still make it through the hole in your desk. There is a 10 amp circuit breaker and a surge suppressor built in. The only downfall is that it is made in China.
