1) Submitted by Don, from Aloha, OR on 1/6/2009 Customer Rating: I have ordered--and received 3 sets of ten stoppers. They are all opaque clear and look very good. I really appreciate the quality. They work better than the much more expensive stainless steel base stoppers with the teflon rings. I have probably made about 25 stoppers of various woods and either given or will give them as gifts. The receipients have really appreciated them. I've found the best finish is the gloss-oil and polyurethane finish from Rockler.

I didn't like having to buy a 9mm drill bit just to make these stoppers and after drilling the hole, some the of them fit rather sloppy in there. I used a medium ca glue so it would help to fill the slop in the fit. Also, the silicone part is not glued on and found some of them to slide off after use. I actually just had these in a show and someone had come up and pulled the stopper out of the bottle and off came the silicone. They seemed surprised, put it back and walked away. I tried gluing it on with thin ca glue, but it does not really stick all that well to the silicone. Haven't tried using silicone to glue it on, just seems like it is too thick and would squeeze out all over. I'm thinking cork stoppers might be the way to go.

3) Submitted by Mike Hall, from Missoula, MT on 1/6/2010 Customer Rating: The dowels I received (2 sets of ten) were not 9mm (closer to 8mm). The 9mm bit I bought is a waste. My solution is an 8mm coarse bolt (with the head sawn off) chucked into a drill chuck. It works but a purpose made mandrel would be better.

These are the best stoppers on the market and I don't even work with wood.I work with glass and I have searched EVERY place on the web for a cheaper and better product and have not found any.

6) Submitted by Brian, from Amherst, NY on 7/5/2010 Customer Rating: These stoppers seal every bottle I've tried well enough to lay the bottle on it's side and no leaks. They have the additional advantage that I can glue them into a hole drilled in the bottom of my whittling blank. One modification i do make- when the stopper is carved, finished, and glued to the dowel I use clear silicone caulk to seal the stopper to the dowel- no moisture can ge in, and the stopper won't come off the dowel and get stuck in the bottle.

7) Submitted by Gary B. Stilwell, from Alva, FL on 2/18/2011 Customer Rating: Ordered 1 10-pack of the stoppers. I was concerned as previous folks had said the stoppers were a little sloppy in the 9 mm hole recommemnded. I now know why-the stopper shank is only 325 thousandths-that's 8.26 mm! no wonder the 9 mm drill bit is too big! If you buy these, be sure to mic the shank bfore drilling.
