I found that the changing of the scale was a little rough, perhaps this will improve with use. I found that the numbers and letters were printed on the metal and not etched into the square. This may be a problem with wear on the rule. The sale price was quite good and I know that the professional squares are very expensive. I have but one. It is a good deal at the sale price.

It's the right size for small jobs, like setting the reveals on the clam shell trim on Habitat builds. It's also a nice size for sticking in a shirt pocket, instead of throwing it in the bottom of a nail pouch just to get it banged around. On the minus side it doesn't have ecthed markings, my Grandfather's Miller Falls combo square is still useable after many decades of being used on jobsites in the rain, mud, snow, etc. because of that very feature. Also the setting screw is a bugger to use and doesn't really want to lock all that easily or for that matter firmly. As a discounted Christmas gift, it was a bargain and a half, to pay full boat, I just don't know.

It's still very accurate, very useful, and will do everything a Starrett will do for the average woodworker. A great value, and a handy tool for set-ups and tune-ups. Considering the price, it's a bargain.

I am not very pleased with the locking mechanism. It is hard to adjust and even locked down the rule will slip when pulled. Sorry, only 2 stars on this one.
