I recently purchased a set of plans from you for U-Build’s Heritage Cradle.
I spent at least one day out of each weekend over a period of about three months working on the cradle and managed to complete it just 10 days before it’s new occupant arrived. She weighed in at only 4 pounds, 14 ounces, is now about three months old, and still sleeps in it every night.
I found the plans for the cradle to be very straight forward and accurate. The only place that gave me a problem was the width of the apron that frames the front of the hood. For some reason, cutting it from the plans caused it to be about 3/8” too narrow. I glued a piece to each end and shaped it and it looked just fine.
My construction methods were a little different from those shown on the plans. I used biscuits instead of dowels wherever possible. These make extremely strong joints and have the added advantage of not showing through the wood.
I did use dowels to join the base to the rockers and rocker brace, and added dowels to the joint between the cradle and base rather than rely on just a glue joint. Using an adjustable drill guide will help with the 8 degree angle needed to drill the dowel holes thru the base into the cradle.
I used cherry wood instead of pine and finished it with a red mahogany stain and polyurethane semi gloss.
The cradle has received many compliments on its shape and proportions, and I feel like it will become an heirloom to this new family.

I had a problem with the apron. The plan is simply wrong, and it is indeed 3/8 of an inch too short. I also used dowels to fasten the top to the rocker bottom, I don't trust the glue to hold it for a long time. I used cherry, but finished it in a cherry stain, and it it is beautiful.

I found most of the plans easy to use. Trying to duplicate the cuts on the end pieces would be easier if the plans included the angles of the cuts.
