Cleanup: Warm, soapy water. Dry Time: Ready to sand in 1 hour under ideal conditions (70°F, 70% humidity). Cooler temperatures and higher humidity will prolong drying time. Thinning: If necessary, thin with 10-20% water. Application: use a foam brush, paint pad applicator or spray gun. Can be sprayed through compressed air, HVLP, airless or C.A.S. units. Oil-based stains must be completey dry before using a water-based top coat. Wait a minimum of 48 hours before applying GF Exterior 450.

1) Submitted by David T., from Cypress, CA on 3/14/2011 Customer Rating: Living in So Cal, with the EPA, the state Air Resources Board, and the SCAQMD regulating all the "good 'ol finishes" the ones that actually work!right off the market, I've finally been forced to start using waterborne outdoor finishes yuck!. I'm sure my past experience has been similar to a lot of people's experiences: Get this new "earth friendly" outdoor wood protector from the big box store, slap it on the new fence just like the instructions say to, then stand back and cringe as it proceeds to self-destruct after less than a year's exposure. Not anymore. . I'm very glad to say, this stuff from General Finishes actually works just as well as, if not better than, the old oil-base stuff I used to use "back in the good 'ol days," when breathing was a risky activity in L.A. I used it to put a clear finish on a cherry sign that had been painted on one side, but the back had been left natural. After a year of southern exposure and one of the wettest winters on record, the cherry looks like the day I put it out there! Take THAT, big box store "protector!" . I've used several of G.F.'s indoor waterborne finishes for years, and I love the way they all handle the same way, so whether I'm using Exterior 450 or Polyacrylic! applying it with a paint pad, a synthetic brush, or by spray! I apply it exactly the same way I would any of their other waterbornes. If you're in a, shall we say, "environment too-friendly" state, or simply need a quick-drying, low odor finish, this is it. For others who also live in the desert, I would suggest adding G.F.'s extender Rockler #21217, which slows the drying time to allow the brush marks to flow out better in the parched desert air.
